thanks for the heads up :+1:

Time to rescue card from recycling and mock up a few panels to see where they’ll fit. Populate the card with hardware as it comes in. Keeps it moving.
I spend a lot of time waiting to find parts or waiting for the energy to use them. Short time spent inching closer and cheaply to the finished case through mock up is for me a real boost. Tape an envelope or zip bag to the back to gather the components. Use the empty box to fuel the fun between builds. Enjoy

maybe you could repurpose an old kids dresser , to set the module cases on . the drawers would be handy for stashing stuff .

Hey dude i love ur case ! Do u have the dimensions for it ? I would like to build the same kind of case :slightly_smiling_face:

I more or less just built as I went but here are some quick notes/details. The back panel is not shown but it’s just 1/4” cheapo particle board stuff. I rabbited all the edges of the rails and the backs of the sides with a table saw so modules and back panel flush up to the case, but this isn’t necessary. Also used a “pocket jig” to hide screws/hardware. Also not necessary but it looks better:

Super Nice ! Thanks! Mine will probably be less good looking and finished than yours but i really like the shape, looks like a moog case, thank you mate !

No prob—and thank you! The important part is the sides everything else just rides. I stacked the two pieces and sanded them together to get a perfect match. The bottom on mine is open as well, works good for me cause I have holes in the top of my work bench to route power. Might try and find an old guitar amp handle to put on top

Nice! I have some questions though:

  • There is an angle between the middle rail for the top row and the middle rail for the bottom row : how do you put it so the modules fit nicely ?

  • for the top and bottom rails did you just put slightly offset wooden pieces? Did you angle the top one ?

  • on your schematics the top row is straight but on ur photo its slightly angled is there a reason ?

Sorry for all that

Yes the top and bottom rails are angled to match the sides.

The middle is made from two pieces glued and brad-nailed together because like you said it has two different angles:

Hope this helps. Like i said i kinda just built as I went along (have a couple of modules with you to dry fit and back-check) and just had to figure out a solution here, especially at the mid rail. You can see my angle on the top of the mid rail is not perfect—from front you couldn’t tell, but being a carpenter I had to make it better and took it off and ran the face thru the table saw again:

This is really being picky tho there’s no way you’d see it with modules in

Built out the modules as much as I could with the parts I had from my first component run. Nothing works yet, sadly, everything is missing a few part here and there. Kinda planning out the layout for the first case. Nothing permanent yet. Not sure I like how deep into the case the modules sit. I originally did this so when I build a cover for the case, I wouldn’t have to unpatch everything. I might have work again in August so I’ll probably start building again then.

I started building Sams strip board designs in to a couple of small cases I had lying around. Then I decided to buy some of Sams pcbs, built a case, and now I’m in the process of re-building my original stripboard modules in Kosmo format. I’m hoping I can get the iRig keyboard working with it all when the midi to cv pcb turns up

Very nice. I use the same wee Marshall amp for both checking the odd signal and looking cool lying around in the background.
Is your case built in an L shape or is that an ingenious use of a vertical case as a horizontal deck?

The Marshall has been very handy for signal checking while building in the kitchen
It started life as just the top case, but I quickly realised I was going to need more room, so I added the bottom one. I need to come up with a locking mechanism to stop the top from pushing over and I have some flight case handles that I’ll add. If I get the keyboard working, I’ll build a case for that too, so it fits in better with the look  Both cases are slightly angled…

and more cases and more cases and more cases …

I read this line and thought “Wasn’t this the KOSMO Setup pics thread and not the one where we were lamenting the surge in COVID 19 victims in places where we did dumb things?” but I just slipped context is all I guess.
