it is true that I prefer the idea of the modular diy sound, which I think corresponds better to the main spirit of this forum, I launched the idea but I do not want to impose anything either, I propose and see what we do it together
As a few others here I’m several months from bringing a modular synth to power. I’m into the idea DAWless modular DIY. In the unlikely case I bring a track to the album concept of @Dud I’ll call it KIC 8462852 which popularized as a star with self generating silicon based life orbiting.
Some one here (including me) would have preferred “only diy modular”, but like i said to @Caustic in MP, i don’t want do it if we are ony 2 or 3 to participate.
So I think the choice for “Modular diy only + add post processing FX, and can manipulate the record” would be better.
to take stock, who would be ok for that ?
It was I who also voted for the Modular DIY only option, although I posted to clarify that I would have preferred it to be a ‘use whatever hardware you have, and use your computer to record’ with an emphasis on DIY hardware, but allowing for things like synths, samplers, hardware effects and midi controllers that people might have in their setup. To use too much in the way of DAW/computer based post processing kind of spoils the fun for me, and takes away from the ‘Look Mum No Computer’ feeling, but at the same time I don’t want to tell anyone else how to make music or to try and stop someone from enjoying the art as a whole.
This isn’t to say I wouldn’t use any computers at all, I am giving serious thought to sequencing some of my voices with my Atari ST through a Midi-CV module. At the same time though, I won’t be using my NI Maschine and my Mac - just using something lightweight to record audio into (likely Ableton) but just for multi-tracking, mixing and mastering rather than actually producing the audio itself. Again though, this is down to my own self-imposed restrictions on the way I like to work, and I wouldn’t want to stop anyone from doing what they enjoy with the resources they have to hand.
I did vote for anything goes just to get more people involved . but I would be glad to it with sound source being diy modular only with recording mastering done with computer . so you say diy modular but what about other diy stuff like circuit bent , piezo pic up stuff ? and store bought modular ?
My thinking is that as long as there is a focus on DIY elements where possible, and other experimental techniques etc, and isn’t just a DAW creation then people should be able to use what they like. But again, this is just my opinion and is by no means definitive. This is Dud’s idea after all
not trying to , just figuring out what the plan is . like JonGreen said it is Dud’s idea and I know someones going to ask these questions might as well get them answered now .
I’ve just creat a youtube channel for this compilation.
i name it like my first idea " FROM EARTH TO KOSMOS", but if you have some proposals .
I also need to make a visual for this channel, I have some ideas to try, but don’t hesitate !
