Spent a day in the sun yesterday, we set up a sound and lighting rig for a DJ event.
Nearley went south as the promotor had forgot to check the Genny came with virtualy no fuel, ran out just as the coaches turned up. Luckily the crowd were enjoying being out in the sun and an hour later we were in business.
I had my 2nd jab on Friday and i’m now staying in this Hotel to the right at Lake Garda in Italy. Not very crowded in this spot because there are no attractions close by. I’m here just for kitesurfing lessons.
Have been doing a lot of work travels lately and I am getting pulled in many directions at the same time. I would love to get back into having people over to play board games again - but sadly the six other people that live in my household all refuse to get vaccinated.
Been hankerin for some d&d for ages. All buds got vacc, but theres still a lot of life in the way for now. Might be gearing up to start playing again in less than a month though.
Lack of seeing people in person is really starting to make me feel poopoo.
Had an actual holliday, 3 nights camping just outside our Cheesy seaside ressort of “Blackpool” .
It felt a little odd with almost no restrictions.
We spent time at the big leisure pool ( they said they were limiting numbers but it seemd as busy as when we have been before )
And we went on all the rides at the “Pleasure Beach” I ended up spending ~£350 on tickets just so we could use the VIP fast pass and skip all the queing.
Was nice to be out and about, and it may be a brief bit of freedom.
Getting away camping again for a few nights , then at a festival for 3 nights. My eldest is doing sound/light across 3 performance stages so he gets in free and free food from vendors.
I booked tickets last year for 4 of us, wife other son and his friend. been touch and go but too late to be cancelled now
hope to get some freebie food on the eldests food pass
wandering round seaside town like normal today. most shops shut but had pub lunch and a few charity shops open to browse …
Had my booster a couple of weeks ago, same time as my 1st ever flue jab… Was absolutely fine
Waiting for lock-down to arrive again…
That festival in the summer was a breath of fresh air [quite literally] , my Son did a grand job including 4 full days doing the lighting in one tent. Even helping the sound guy from the Buzzcocks out with the House Behringer X32 sound desk #NOTMYVIDEOBuzzcocks - Ever Fallen In Love - YouTube
thanks for sharing about your son , that really hits home for me . just went to our sons graduation from uni , technical theater his major [ lighting , sound , stage design ] . though he says it has not much to do with him getting any of the 3 jobs his has now . works for a cities parks and recreation dept. , they have a theater and do live stuff in the parks in the summer , does stuff for a local club [ setting up their lighting and sound ] and stage hands for our local IATSE 38 Detroit [ which I belong too also ] . now just pay off the student loan and new car to get there and he can have a life .
Some local news hit the national news yesterday and today that hits close to home. Literally.
Here’s the story from one news source. They don’t include all of the information for everything that happened, but most.
This started at Sol Tattoo, which is 3 blocks from my house. It’s a place that I’ve been to numerous times for jewelry. The owner, Alicia, was killed who I didn’t know. Another woman, Alyssa, was also killed. I only knew her from shopping there as she would always help me when I went in. Her husband was the target and he’s wounded and in the ICU. I was 50 feet from this location about 15 minutes before the shootings happened.
The gunman left there and went to 6th and Cherokee, which is in the opposite direction of Sol heading towards my house. (In fact the shooter had to drive right past my house in order to get to this 2nd location.) 6th and Cherokee is 2 blocks from my house. My father-in-law and I were on our way to pick-up some take out when we were stopped at a light on 6th and Bannock (1 blk east of of Cherokee.) There were two police cars and a van completely engulfed in flames. I wondered how the police had gotten to a fire before the fire department considering that the fire department is literally 4 blocks away on 2nd. Come to find out that the shooter had JUST set off an explosive device to intentionally blow-up the van about 2 minutes before we drove up. Apparently, the guy who owned the van also owns the tattoo shop on the corner and that guy was the target. He and his family got away, thankfully. The shooter then continued to another location and shot and killed a man there, before heading out to Lakewood (Denver suburb) and killing 2 more people, injuring at least 1 more, and getting into several shootouts with police.
All of the people killed were known to this guy except for the Hyatt hotel clerk, who they think he shot to get back at the hotel in general. Still, this felt WAY to close to home and it literally was. Knowing that I was in 2 of these locations mere minutes before and after is unsettling. I’m familiar with all of these businesses and some of the people who work there. I have friends who knew some of these people extremely well and it’s heartbreaking. I just needed to vent about this.
ah an other wonderful day in murica . I thought that there are millions of guns everywhere so we would be “safe” from this sort of thing , such B.S. . glad you ok .
Imagine having a worse killing spree than that In a quite rural county in the uk where guns are the exception rather than the norm… and where most of the victims were just random bystanders.
I was on holiday at the very other end of the country but it was still very much disturbing that an event of such horror could happen in my little corner of the UK…
Thankfully outside of “Terrorist” attacks our number of such events in the last 30 years is countable on two hands and the toll usualy less than one hand…
