How’s everybody holding up?

when i get like that. I book a day off and just go into the country. take a walk, look at the world.

Granted I live on the edge of the english lakes which helps. but just sitting and watching the world go by fresens the mind. #needtogetoutthere

Im doing pretty good today, got some stuff moved from the house and did a little wander around the charity shops.
Glad I did, we picked up a PS3 Slim with 2 controllers, 2 Move controllers and a few games… All in working order.

Our daughter got angry at me and took scissors to the power cables of a number of items. One of them was my Akai Miniak, which I was looking forward to playing with after splashing out on a patch editor. It’s not completely dead, but although the software seems to be working fine, and the menu display is responding to controls, there is no sound output on headphones or line out. I’m trying to work up the courage to open it up and try to fix it. Hopefully the power transient caused by the cutting just burned out something that’s easily replaced, such as the audio output pre-amp. The scissors cut through the 9V DC line close to the Miniak’s power socket.

I was falling in love with the Miniak. That incident really knocked me back. I feel as if anything I do may be pointless because it could be undone in a fit of anger. I haven’t even been keeping up with this forum.

I’m messing with software and systems again to fill in the gap. I have a VPS and a domain, and I’m also playing with self-hosting on a Raspberry Pi 3 attached by ethernet to my Wi-Fi router. I’ll get back to music soon but I have to get over this.

Living with an autistic adult can be unpredictable. She is a loving daughter, and she’s very intelligent and has a university-level vocabulary, but sometimes her literal-mindedness and volatility push her beyond the pale.

The break has been fairly welcome. I had got into a rut where I could take planning to an advanced stage but never actually start building. My cupboards are littered with spare parts, my head with ideas never put to the test.

At least if I mess around with computer resources my costs are minimal. My VPS is £5/month and the domain costs about £2/year (it can be amazingly cheap if you don’t want .com or some other fashionable tld.) The Raspberry Pi 3B has been sitting around unused from an earlier project and I plan to augment it with the unused 128GB SSD from my laptop after I upgraded that to 480GB. I installed a Debian-based prepackaged self-hosting kit called Yunohost (Y U No Host? Geddit?)

Yunohost is very good, and I used it to bring myself up to date on DNS configuration and TLS certification, but I plan to run either Debian or OpenBSD on the Pi. The VPS also runs on Debian 10 at the moment. As a hobby rather than a serious political strategy I’m seeing how much I can degoogle my life. De-Amazoning might be more pertinent but alas I don’t have the courage for that. You can do an amazing amount with non-google, privacy-respecting free services.

13yr old has a + Lateral Flow last night… Wife managed to wing getting him a proper test as she is NHS and without the test we would defo be isolating. Alternative was an 80 mile round trip as our normal test center has closed.

Proper test came back clear so our 18 hour isolation is over and we can get back to normal for now.

Kids on summer holiday from friday… Got a trip away to Blackpool (Cheesy but it’s fun) end of the month, then York for 3 days at end of august directly followd by three days at a music festival… So just hope all goes ahead, not been away from home overnight since Oct 2019.

What about the 42.000+ new covid cases each day?

Hospitalisations and death rates are much much lower due to most cases being in the younger generation.

In my neck of the woods, we are in much better shape than round this time last year (not bothering to even show seasonality differences since its like a huge diff).

Wishing for a small third bump, then we’re done…

WELP

Oh, and of course.
