What would YOU do with that? (Uses for odd components)

300 ohm resistor, anyone?

I wonder what kind of reverb tank that would make ?

I have access to these cheap-o 2AA powered candles…

Maybe there is some way to turn it into a passive distortion? Or something?

Is it one of those color changing LEDs with the chip inside?

I like the super warp generator, at least the idea. I have one with an rgb led but don’t like that particular led.
It’s passive but not a distortion though

It doesn’t do multiple colors, it just flickers a bit.

Seen this? Flickering LED Candle Random CV Generator | AE Modular

I’m sure I’ve seen some other variations on this too.

Or you can take a different approach

Add in a cap and a solar cell. Then add a magnet and you have a cricket… Tagging for nerds.
If you have a few then some kind of nervous net sequencer might be fun.

Candle Vactrol when.

Ok so i got this amazingly cool LDR from a work friend:

It goes from about 300k down to 200 ohms.
I’d like to do something cool with it, preferably where it’s visible

I already thought putting an em34 magic eye tube on top to make an overly complicated vactrol but that seems a bit pointless

Idea from the top of my head: use a pocket fan to generate an audio signal between the tube and a phototransistor.

yes like this ?

very fun and simple circuit

Phototransistor, you mean an LED? I’d think LDR and phototransistor would be an either/or thing.

I guess @dud’s project uses ambient light?

I can’t see using an LED with this, the technology would be too dissonant. Maybe a neon bulb.

yes it use ambiant light

and not this one : “Optical tremolo” with his own little light

An LDR would be way too slow for something like this though… Photodiodes and phototransistor are much quicker in response

It’s an LDR we’re trying to use here, though… and @dud’s project is based on this one which does use an LDR as seen here:

Oh wow that fan thing is pretty cool.

I’m also in the process of building a small (mostly) tube synth voice, this might be a cool vco/lfo.
I use dropping resistors for all the heaters because i use series heating tubes in parallel with a BEEFY +12v rail. Might help cooling the thing down a bit

Also maybe the Eric Barbour tube VCF with the ldr for control might be cool.

I AM going to try the magic eye vactrol though. I just have to

I’m also looking for a fan that:s big enough for de ldr
