Not a proper track, just a quick throwie beat while recording some modules.

Every sound in here is recorded by me - hats from the modular, kicks from the hog schoops, claps and other noises from the field recorder - no samples, except the one vocal.

Once I get some god damn VCOs, I’ll actually be able to put down some melodies!

The goal is to make beats and noise that’s really bassy, rattly, noisy and all original sounds… think I’m starting to get there…

Been thinkin about makin a tape looper. Do you recommend 2nd hand, or are the cheapo ones i can buy on amazon good enough for hacking apart and modding?

For me all machine that can read a K7 (cassette tape) is good, the modification is on the K7 itself to make a loop one

after you can hack the motor for pitch speed in all machine, with a little pwm circuit.

i made one with a simple walkman

new to tape looping myself really. been following a few people on tiktok who use cassette tapes. so I bought an old portable cassette player/recorder which has a speed control on Ebay. there’s also people making blank looped cassettes on Ebay. so I’ve now bought a bunch of old tapes, just remember to get ones that have screwed together cases, not glued, and I’ll make my own. then you just need to remember to cover the erase head, otherwise you get a gap in the looped sound.

if you buy blank loops or if you record after doing your loop, there will be the creak of the rec / stop.
or you can record before and take a piece of the tape after = no crack (but it 's a little longer for select the loop)

Nice! Are you using any DIY stuff in this?

@devicex I second you motion. And I wonder whether the bass would rock your car if you play it with one open window (no need for pneumatics).

I’m not sure what inspired me to create this. Was it Covid and being fed up with it, was it the season or the weather? No clue. It has a bit of a cinematic (maybe film noir?) feeling to it. Best listened to at a decent volume for anyone appreciating the lower part of the sound spectrum.

I entered it in the “Kosmonuts music compilation” project:
