yes good sound !
me rhythmically after a while I would have seen the drums come in a little jungle style / drum n bass by doubling the tempo, but it’s only my desire

The ingredients are not bad at all. But I would mix it differently. The bass is too loud and the beats too low in volume. The arp should be somewhere in between, I think. But those are just suggestions.

Crips, that is the word I was looking for. I hear a lot of crisp sounds. Like in the other tracks you have put in this thread. What are the sound sources you use? VST? Hardware? B.t.w. I really like the glide in the bass at 0.48. But the main question is, what will follow after 2:00 ?

Sound sources: Ableton: Punch and Dirty Lead, Wavestation EX: Pads, K2000: Strings, Quasimidi Sirius: Drums, Vocode-O-Matic (software vocoder): slowly evolving rhythmic sounds

1st track from the album Weltschmerz

I used Spire VST for the first bit. It’s a custom bank i’ve been using lately and it’s awesome. For the bass in the 2nd half i have a xfer serum preset that i’ve actually based off a bass preset in a synth called the 7i8XD-MKI. They are from a company called RekID they only lasted 2 1/2 months before they had to shutdown due to reasons unknown sometime in the 90s. My friends dad used to be a electrical engineer there and he has hella prototypes of synths that never made to market after quarantine I’ll be sure to post pic of those beauties. The glide is a subdrop i got from a trance drumkit. after 2:00 idk what i’m doing
Glade you like!

Again I’m curious what will follow after this short piece. You must have passed the 2 minutes mark at least once, haven’t you?

I really like the big bass but I’m less of a fan of the melody (too “dance” for me)

Got a new idea:

I still have no idea how to get from some cool sounding melodies to a proper song, but I thought, forcing myself to record a little bit of what I am trying can only help. Just experimenting and learning… Hope you don’t mind, my beginner pieces here
@Jos I tried to take your advice about mixing into account, never thought about that before, thanks!

No one minds beginner pieces, @sebastian-this is a great start! I really like it. As we used to say when I was hanging out with the Chicago Jazz crowd, “That really swings, man.”

Ha, this sounds more balanced. Each of the instruments is audible, none of them is pushing away the others. Great! Are you sure you haven’t done this before?

Next thing you could have a look at is the frequency content. The sounds in this piece are all in the mid to low frequency range. In the earlier piece the arp had more high frequencies in them which made them have a sort of sparkling character. Did you by chance send everything through a low pass filter (cutting away the high frequencies)?

Made in Ableton using Punch and Dirty Lead, Korg Wavestation Ex (Vangelis pad), Quasimidi Sirius (Mellotron) and some drum samples.

It ‘s like Kraftwerk mixed with 1993 Frankfurt ambient. Lovely.

This track was written while I was in hospital waiting for major heart surgery. Can you tell? I had my laptop with me and a small Akai APC Key 25 midi keyboard. Luckily I survived.

Sound sources: Ableton Punch and Dirty Lead for pads and arpeggiator.

Writer’s block in English refers to a temporary failure of the creative flow in writing. Is that the sense intended by the French title bloc de l’écrivain?
