Oh, since then, there has been quite a bit of progress. B.t.w. thanks for asking!
I have a youtube channel where I put videos concerning the hardware I make. There are several videos about the S-MMOM (short for Stochastic-Melody-Make-O-Matic): beginning with this one:
where I introduce midi to the device ( I initially wanted this to be a V/Oct + CV only device ),
then show the pixel ring (no sound yet):
Next when I finished a front panel I thought it was time for a demo including some sound:
Then the idea came to me to use the pixel ring as an indicator when turning one of the knobs:
And a video showing the latest functions I added with a sound demo:
Currently Iâm working on streamlining the user interface / workflow and getting rid of some bugs; and Iâm working on a track for which I used the S-MMOM as a source of inspiration for melodies and rhythms.
Ah hah! I knew I had seen more about it - but I couldnt remember where exactly. I must have watched it on youtube and then lost track of the videos. Very cool stuff.
Yâall, these arrived from Ali today and if the LDRs are any good, they are going to make the CUTEST LITTLE VACTROLS. Oh, and some PJ-301 jacks for the breadboard. I figure if these are of an acceptable quality Iâll order a bag of 100.
Woop woooop! Itâs blue box day! Itâs Otem Relliks Teensy Drum V2.
Going to build one up on the weekend and see if it works, if allâs good anyone want to trade or buy?
The button hole is a couple mm to big so thatâs got to be fixed.
1221 oscilator controller dropped. no idea when i will build it my spare time is in negative amounts at the moement⌠And last week whilst doing a little forcefull pushing on the work bench the capacitor componenet case took a swan dive and emptied itâs entrails everywhere, so i have a box of random caps to re-sort⌠SighâŚ
Heaven! On crap days when Im stuck in bed or a chair I love passing the time sorting out the random piles of shizzle that accumulate in a makers life. As a disabled maker i get to call it a win in the daily achievement collum. (CFT, Compassion Focused Therapy is a must if you live with ME/CFS)
Iâve always referred to it as âtattingâ which is an old lacemakers term for perpetually rearranging the thread bobbins in your lap to make a pattern.
When younger my kids would help, âtattingâ away to an audio book. Now grown and flown they have their own tat to deal with. (still mostly pokemon and lego though!)
For components i have a small microscope hooked to my phone, a component tester or meter and a couple of old ice cube trays. All mounted on a dedicated high sided tray with padding underneath so it can rest in my lap. I did once try to make the process easier using clothes pegs and old mobile phone elastomeric connector strips but withdrew as the engineering rabbit hole expanded. (those strips are well worth a look for pcb sandwich makers)
Caps are by far easier to sort than resistors and for chips, my tray has an earth point and a UV led light (best thing to highlight faded chip and vacuum tube text with the added bonus of pretending to be a police forensic scientist)
I got it off Amazon. Itâs a brand called âEesdomâ, which Iâd never heard of, but the price + customer rating combo was right. I also ordered âaftermarketâ roller blade wheels for it, because struggling with those little plastic wheels is one of my least favorite things. Itâs miles better than the hand-me-down chair I had, which took up way more space and was literally falling apart.
Makes me curious to know what you need that much LEDs for? Iâm working on a device that needs 192 leds on it, so you have beaten me by quite a number.
I am building a âfastest fingerâ quiz system for a works event, actualy the event was supposed to be two weeks ago but was canceled after a valued colleague passed away suddenly. Itâs given be a few weeks for tweaks and improvements.
I did a proof of concept on stripboard last year and it went down a storm, it was made more âProductionâ for this year with a few tweaks and the score board is part of next years upgradeâŚ
