TMA Dexed board arrived

A standalone dx7 that you can plug a usb midi keyboard into.

I’ve been been waiting on the pcb for ages. !

That’s super interesting. What are you intentions for it? Do you plan on breaking out the controls like LMNC did with the Sega MegaDrive?
Also how did you get/order the pcb?

I don’t think so - I wanted a standalone DX7 in a compact box.

It’s based around a teensy - running a port of Dexed. So it’s an emulation really and not a clone.

I contacted Holger at the Parasitstudio site to purchase the PCB. He’s really helpful and sells kits too.

The whole thing is opensource too - I’ll post some pics when it’s done

And what’s a kit approximately worth out of interest?

This is less sexy solution, but I have the Volca FM, and it’s basically a DX7 in a small box for around $100. Not bad. No USB, but it does have MIDI in.

Agreed. I had one but missed the polyphony. Volca FM and the new OP6 both look cool

The PCB was 12 euros from memory. I bought the parts over time and they came in at around $100 aud.

The pricey parts are the teensy, the audio shield and the lcd screen.

My Microdexed is project is getting closer to being finished.

Flashed the Teensy, all that left is soldering pins on the audioshield and hooking it all up.

Hey @Mcshafty - how’d this end up?

This is next on my list of things to build, I’ve got all the pieces I need.

Cheers

Mine worked out just fine. I really like it.

Holger has also provided great support.

How is your build going?

Great news - thanks for the info.

I haven’t started yet - so far just assembled all the bits I need.
Looking forward to getting me some sweet FM polyphony…

Cheers

Got it done, a bit fiddly but it all appears to work:

Best bit I think is the USB Host, I can plug my Keystep or my Digital Piano into it and it all works straight away.

Cheers

Nice work, I like the look of the finished case.

Can the usb midi host support multiple devices simultaneously, i.e a keyboard and a controller?

So far I’ve only plugged one thing at a time into it so I can’t really say. There’s only one slot so I guess you’d need a hub to start with. There’s also 5 pin MIDI DIN, so maybe that’s a way to get more than one thing hooked up?
