KOSMO Setup pics

thx @Jos and @Farabide !
there I take a break to experiment with all this and make music, … but deep down I’m already thinking about the next case and want to solder some components :grinning:

Last week I finished my first Kosmo module, the VCO. SO now it is time to start building a small case for this and subsequent modules. The bottom row is 20cm high for Kosmo modules, the top row is indended for 10cm panels containing speakers (already got them, and an amp), a small oscilloscope (small kit I built), and probably an alteration of the Kosmo Safety Valve module.
The case still needs filler to cover up the counter-sunk screws, sanding to smoothen the edges, and a clear lacquer (as I like the wood look).

Ofcourse I am already working on the next Kosmo modules, namely the ADSR and VCLFO.

Currently looking like this! I like it! The light on top is a drumbrute impact.

Siiiiick! Is that a gameboy oscillator?!

Yes! I made a strip board for the LTC1799 and the Arduinoboy, which I modified with 4 additional potentiometers, which send midi CC commands for the wave shapes! I can share that if anyone is interested…

Niiice! Got a video up of it?

looks like a great start , soon you will be making plans for the second case

Well, after a snail like pace for about a year I have finally finished my first case! Everything working, minus managing to get 1V/Oct tracking on the MFOS filter - I twiddled away for a while but I just stopped caring.

Thanks for all the help along the way everyone!

If only I could copy your build rate as well :joy:

I built a new three row 168 HP (~85cm (yes it has Vector rails)) Kosmo case. It’s actually been done for a few weeks, except I was working on a new power supply (more on that in the power supply thread shortly. It’s a doozy). I put the four balanced outs from my Barton module on the back. It has my 25 channel case interconnect and aviation connector for power and two 25 header bus boards. I stained common project board with a mahogany color for the frame.

In hindsight, I would have built it a little deeper to reduce wobble, but I think I will just add a bracket and screw it down. It’s not like I’m touring.

Wow! Looks amazing. How deep did you make it?

It’s 5 ½ inches, because that’s how wide 6 inch boards are

Have a few things to finish, waiting on some pots and parts and then I officially need another row or 2… lol

Especially with my 30cm wide Fartbox Panel looming on the horizon

lol yep thats why I didn’t f@#* around and just built a 4’x8’ wall of boxes right form the get go on this modular thing . Kosmo is huge and modular synth is addicting …

Oh, you made an NLC Sloth !
It is such a simple circuit, I was thinking about making one for my first B-Z project (‘A’ being NLC’s schematics  ), with PCB and Panel designed in KiCAD and ordered from JLCPCB.
How useful is this module in the real world ?

I made a Kosmo Sloth Chaos (KAOS?) using a PCB from NLC:

Of course it would’ve been easy to draw up my own PCB and have it made, or to do it on stripboard. But the board was only $8 and I wanted Andrew to get paid for his creative efforts.

How useful is it? I haven’t had it long enough to figure that out really. It’s fun, though. Its usefulness is no doubt strongly dependent on the kind of music you’re making. It’s designed for slowly evolving ambient stuff, but the fastest version I think could be more generally applicable than that, used to vary say a filter and a VC envelope generator on a lead.

This picture makes the size difference between KOSMO and EURO Rack very clear.
