Here’s a little jam from last month
Beth,
Pretty panels!

Beth,
I see an MS-20 mini, a MicroKorg, an Ion and some kind of home organ. Which of those joins in the jams?

Thank you! I originally started trying to make the weirdest panels I could, but after I made the 4011 quad nand module I really decided that I liked a simple design, so pretty much every panel I’ve made since that has been a different tone of grey. It’s been too cold to go out and put them in though, so I just have a few modules sitting a box waiting for springtime
The only things being used in that jam are the modular for sequencing, the MS-20 for the lead sound, and the Model D providing a kick drum. When it’s warm enough that I’m not confined to one corner with a space heater next to me, the whole studio is used as a whole. I have a midi loop running through the whole studio and anything can talk to anything else. If you go to my channel and watch the Mac SE video, you can see me sequencing several things with OG Cubase. Synthtopia actually did an article on that video and it’s probably the most successful I’ve ever felt in my life lol
Awesome. you have cool gear—like that micron, I used to have one. Should have kept it cause I think it’s going to be semi-classic at some point!
Beth,
If I did use paint I’d be careful to use stencils and keep it clearcoated so it couldn’t get scratched too easily. It’s why I’ve been sticking to buying PCB panels for convenience. I like seeing the kind of aquamarbling though.
The set up is very interesting. I look forward to seeing how much you use the potential of running the MIDI loop through it.
I’m not so much into the war out of the box or in the box as I’m into lookmumoldcomputer so I respect the Mac SE highly. I want to get my MSX running TriloTracker then perhaps I can get any future acquisition to run Cubase 1.0!

I actually sold mine back in 2011 and regretted it for 9 years before I finally got another last year. I paid the hefty price of 500 usd but it was worth it because it was basically brand new. They’re way more powerful than anybody gives them credit for. It’s like a tiny workstation!
I appreciate the advice. Right now I’m not really worried too much about aesthetics as I am function. I am trying to make things look as nice as I can so that I can learn to design, but things like scratched paint and crooked panels aren’t as important as me learning circuitry right now. Someday when I feel I know what I need to, I’d like to make a nice Moog-inspired 5u with nicely drilled metal panels and LEDs that line up For now it’s strictly been function over form, though. Much luck to you getting your MSX going!
That is really cool and it sounds great!
Hi Everyone,
I’m Richard and I’ve been following Sam’s LMNC/Patreon work for a while and more recently started to look at this forum, which has been inspirational in motivating me into just getting on with it, making something, and coupled with my interest in electronic music (mainly listening, but did own and experiment with a Roland SH-09 and yamaha? drum machine in the 80’s).
With a computing/software/IT & photography background I’ve always had an interest in technology, how things work and some tinkering with electronics, last year being stuck at home. I started with restoring/fixing my two old commodore pets’s and upped my diagnostic and soldering/de-soldering skills tremendously (and upgraded my soldering iron) giving me the confidence to start building my own larger projects.
I decided making a Kosmo format Modular synth was my next project, so here I am ~6 months into it, with several of LMNC’s Kosmo modules built/ in-progress and I have just completed my first surface mount project a Braids converted to Kosmo format with a newly created Kosmo PCB style front panel.
I’m now slowly exploring/discovering how to patch things together, with a steep learning curve still ahead. not sure yet I’ll ever create anything too musical but I am sure I’ll enjoy the creative and immersive experience and process! Also really enjoying how modular can be as simple or complex as you want it to be and looking forward to some experimentation of my own, inspired by Sam’s live build sessions.
Welcome!
You are in good company! XD
This makes me want to finish writing the song for the Kosmonuts music compilation project. This weekend is goign to get work done!
hi , Richard welcome . yeah I’ve built a bunch of stuff in the past year it was fun and zen like , now I need to make it all work and learn how to use it LOL . the folks around here are very helpful and inspirational .
I’m really excited you are part of this community, my dude. Having grown up in Harlem and as a current Chicago resident, I have to say that it is moving to meet someone that does DIY synthesis. We get a lot of slack for our lack of diversity, but it makes me wanna raise up my fist everytime we get another member who is a fisherman. Stay dry.
Nothing fishy about that bass!
Welcome here

hopefully there is no east coast [ Detroit ] west coast [ Chicago ] animosity here LOL . we love your city its been like home every time we have been there .
Welcome …
Hi, I’m Lauri! I only just joined the forum, but I’ve been following Sam’s projects for years. I recently started a YouTube channel about diy instruments. I just released a video about building a modular case and I’m planning on filming videos about module builds. I could maybe also just post something about the modules the system consists of now. Couple of the modules are sam’s designs.
Nice to be part of the community!
Welcome to the forum !
nice work !
some Stranger Things bass line at the begining
