So can I attend a community testing center to see if I took have contracted the electrovirus?

Not quite, but if you’ve built something or have a problem and your first thought is on this forum, then you are infected. Maybe we could open such a test center to make sure

Be ready to empty your wallet. The cost of this virus is not covered by any health insurance or government.

Or start raiding your friends, neighbors, dumpsters and family for old tech you can cannibalize for parts. Cheaper and way more fun.

In the beginning it was the same for me, good to practice, but now I prefer to buy my things. But sometimes I still see something special and I take it with me and solder out the components that I need

Hi all. I started getting into the DIY synth scene about 3 years ago. Still a lot to learn but loving it. I’ve done a few LMNC modules (on stripboard) over the years and came to the conclusion to build something more portable/different than Kosmo format. So here is my “semi-modular” synth equipped with a DIY modular power supply (+/- 12V), LMNC’s super simple oscillators (3x), the MS-20 LPF, simple envelope generator, and a LFO from Roland’s 100M system. Its very basic/simple but is capable of some interesting patches. I plan on doing another similar build with 3340 VCOs, instead of the simple transistor osc(s). This current build was just a challenge for myself and I’m quite happy with the results. Only thing left to do is some labeling. Cheers!

Dang that’s a pretty little machine! what did you do to the metal?
Some copper knobs would look sweet AF on that, or some chunky nuts

(tries to not make a D joke)

Thanks! Its a chemical patina applied to carbon steel sheet metal. Basically a thin copper coating and another coating on top that makes that blue-ish/purple rainbow effect.

I like the copper knobs idea! Can’t say I’m sold on those generic black ones…

It looks like a nice bit of old factory equipment but the knobs are factory new =D

what about bashing up/treating some copper end caps? that’d probably work. idk, i trust your aesthetics =]

Wonderful idea!! Might have to try that this weekend!

Looks like a seventies piece of hi-fi equipment! Great work! The idea of DIY semi-modular is intriguing.

Thanks! I’ll be making version 2.0 soon. Just waiting on materials.

Hello all…

I’m Flounderguts (or Flounder, or FG) here and on several other forums (muffs, electro-music, etc).

I build and play theremins, and I got into DIY synths to support that. I actually grew up in a home with and Atari ST (or 3 or 4) and a JX-3P, Juno 106, FB-01, and some electronic wind instruments. I wasn’t interested back then, but I’m happy to have them now!

I like desktop boxes, and I’ve built lots of MI, MFOS, and classic noise boxes. I’m also into lofi, tapes, contact mic stuff, and test equipment. I have built and collected quite a lot of modular stuff, but I’ve yet to put it all in a case…I built my own jumbler to use stuff across formats.

Right now I’ve spent a lot of time making an expansion for the Soma Labs Lyra-8 DIY, and I have a website for that. A post at muffs directed me here, and it seems more active than E-M, so here I am!

I’m an engineer at work, and I have lots of experience sourcing parts and pcbs.
