How’s everybody holding up?

Stuck at work, thinking about testing my 808 kick module.

Sorry to hear! Moving is always a major pain.

Totally sympathise with your pain.

The local shooting range I go to has introduced a 1 hour parking limit, but the range slots are allocated in 1 hour bookings. So that means I have to be already in my car and out of the car park before the hour is up. This rule covers disabled parking also, so I only manage to get 30 or 40 minutes in the range.

Or, I can park outside the car park on the road with my blue badge making it more difficult for cars to get past. That way I get 3 hours parking, but it’s a long slow walk to the range. So the new parking rules have made life more difficult.

Or… I can screw the range and go to Airsoft instead.

Edit: [ Actually was the landlord of the shooting range that introduced the 1 hour limit. ]

Nervous but also very excited

Just had a job interview at an amazing electronics company. They develop and assemble electronic devices for third parties. I will be populating and soldering pcb’s, assembling the products and packaging. Basically everything that we all like to do here on this forum

I took a step back due to mental health reasons a while back, and the last year i’ve been taking care of my best friend who got in a wheelchair after a suicide attempt. I’ve been doing gardening and electronic repair work to keep the money coming in.
I’m happy that i gave myself time to heal, and also i’m very proud to have been taking care of my friend, and helping her gave my life purpose again.
But this also means i haven’t worked for an employer for over 2 years. It was a big step for me to apply for what might just be my dream job.

Though i have a feeling the interview was very positive, i’m quite nervous. I’m not excactly qualified for the job, but i have a lot of experience. They told me that making electronics for a company has higher standards than hobby electronics. I told them that i have a background in aviation so i can work to pretty high standards as well.

They will let me know tomorrow if they have the capacity for training new employers. I’m not sure what to think because they haven’t exactly said yes, but also they didn’t tell me no.

I’m pretty nervous and i’m wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation where you had an interview where you didn’t know what the outcome was

For sure. Waiting to find out is awful. Best of luck.

Thank you very much

So awful, it’s the first time i had an interview where i didn’t know if i was going to be hired or not so i really don’t know how to feel about it.

I guess i will have to just try to let it go for today and try to not be so nervous about it

@konthaar043 heyyy congrats on the interview!
Ill be expecting lots of comments on my trash skill soldering compared to yours lol

Sad to hear about ur friend but glad ur able to make their life easier =)

Did your potential employer catch your joke about ‘aviation’ and ‘high’ standards? Haha!

Thanks! I’m not sure if the employer noticed the joke, i didn’t even realise untill you pointed it out lol

My friend is doing quite well, it’s been about a year since it happened and she can walk around the house a bit again and can get in and out of bed and bathroom and shower by herself now so that’s great!
It’s been rough but when she finally told she was glad she survived, it gave me all the energy i need to cope and be there for her

I’m just concerned about not being employed for so long that i will have trouble getting a job. I will forever be thankful and proud that i made the decision to spend last year helping her, but i’m not sure if all employers will see the value in that.

Not having an answer about my interview just makes me worry, but i guess everything will turn out fine in the long run. Even if i don’t get the job

You guys are all amazing

Thank you for the kind words

Man that must be so hard losing two friends, i can’t even imagine. I hope you’re doing ok. Sadly it’s a part of life that will never get easy. I’m having a hard time to express in english but i really hope you’ll be ok and get through it and i am sending all the kindness and positivity back to you
It is very inspiring how you keep going and “take the good with the bad”, it’s really the only way to go but it’s helpful to be reminded of that sometimes.

It feels nice to be part of this amazing community of like-minded people, each with their own stories. I really wish all of you the best

I saw your sons wedding picture in the other topic. They look like a lovely couple, i bet you’re a very proud parent
May they, and you, have a wonderful and happy life

Pulled my best mate of a bridge more than once, he’s been coping better the last few years but it’s always in my mind. And my mum tried several times from servere clinical depression, it was somewhat a relife when she passed from natural causes . So I have a few t-shirts …

As an employer myself, would I hire someone who had bummed arroudn for two years?? Possibly depending on their skill?

Would I employ someone who had done something worthwhile, interesting, morally correct, above and beyone, done something for others… Yes, very much so, skills can be learned and improved but personality is a hard one to mould. When I look at a CV I skip over 95% of it , try and focus on the language and not the detail and it’s the same in intervies, dont bore me with your MCSE, CCNA , ITIL , PRINCE3 crap, it’s the person I am interested in.

Woo. Looking forward to interviewing two contractors on Tuesday that I have no work for but “Project” office tell me I need to have them… be nice to be paid £500 a day to sit on my hands :frowning:

Glad your friend is doing better
It’s so sad that some people see no other way out. He is lucky to have a friend like you to depend on.

You must also be a very nice employer to work for. I finished my education as an aviation technician for about 75%, but then went to do social work, of which i have a diploma.
Realised there how burnt out i was and took a step back for my own mental health. I saw up close how important mental health is and that you must be able to depend on yourself in order to help others.

So as a social worker i’ve basically doing my job when taking care of my friend. Still, i’ve had employers make me explain the “gap in my cv”.
Very hard to keep motivated sometimes, because last few years for me have been a battle, of which very few people see the impact it had.
I guess healthcare and technology are two very different worlds.

They would let me know yesterday if they had the time to train new employers, but didn’t let me know anything yet. Still your words give me hope that there will be a job for me somewhere
Thank you very much
I’m off to do gardening work today, make a bit of cash. At least i still have that a few days a week

yesterday, we implmented a new test policy.

My line manager is on holiday for the week, his network login has been disabled and he switched off his work phone.

I left my phone on my work desk for 4 days and felt so much better without it.

I will take the hit from his absence for the week, but i seriously hope he feels better for it and I will be motivated by that. Sure my week may be worse , but agregated for the team it should be positive.

Keen to get this pushed up the line of command and stamp out the culture that expects people to work and worry past thier contractual obligation…

wooo… chip on shoulder …

Unexpectedly my wife, in her mid-seventies but still bursting with vigour, tested positive for Covid-19 a couple of days ago. She’s feeling a little under the weather but doesn’t (yet) seem to be too unwell. Our son also tested positive and he’s also feeling pretty bad, but our daughter and I don’t seem to have any symptoms and we haven’t even bothered to test.

This would have to happen while we’re having work done on the house.

It does look as if we’ve all got it, but perhaps because we’re all up to date on our vaccinations the symptoms (particularly in my case) are very mild. The only inconvenient symptom I’ve had was a loose involuntary bowel movement while I was walking the dog. Very embarrassing, but not a major medical problem and not repeated. My daughter is now also reporting flu-like symptoms such as aches and pains. My wife and son both seem to be over that phase.

A recreational group I belong to has an annual weekend event every April in Otsego County, New York — except not in 2020 or 2021. This year the group decided to go ahead with it. I declined to participate in planning, because I didn’t want to once again have my hopes and efforts dashed by a covid-related cancellation.

In fact, if I’d been involved in the planning, I would have ended up advocating canceling. If you haven’t noticed, covid is surging in central New York. Several of the participants were from Syracuse and Binghamton, which are at High community transmission level. Otsego County moved from Low to Medium last week. The other participants came from Boston, New York City, and Baltimore/DC. I felt having these people travel into an area where covid was surging, and mingling with people from High areas, was asking for trouble. But the event went on. About 35 people took part, spending Friday and Saturday night in an old inn and having meals indoors together. Vaccination was required, and a negative result from a covid test taken Friday before coming.

I chose to participate, but only for the outdoor events on Saturday and staying a bit apart mostly. Meals on my own, in my car.

And then on Monday after the event, one of the participants had symptoms and tested positive. Most likely they’d been infected around mid week and were contagious on Saturday and Sunday. They tested negative twice on the weekend, but that’s not surprising. The tests commonly give false negatives for the first five days after exposure.

As of right now, to my knowledge, at least seven or eight other participants have tested positive since Tuesday. To date, so far as I know, the cases have been mild. Still, it seems likely central New York viruses have been exported to Boston and New York via our group’s event, and from there, they’ll likely spread further. It’s exactly the scenario I was concerned about. I hate it when I’m right.

Not that the surge isn’t spreading anyway, but did we really have to help it?

I’m asymptomatic and tested tonight. Negative.

my wife got us free tickets to see blue man group [ which was great show by the way ] and probably 98% of the people were not wearing masks you know at least 1 person out of the thousand in that theater had active Covid . so yeah it will just keep spreading again and again because well freedum for one and think most people have just given up on wearing masks and limiting large gatherings [ stopping transmission ] . so get vaccinated if you can and hope for the best ?
