The police showed up today to get my signature on the second statement about the assault last week. They’ll probably interview the attacker who will tell a pack of lies and that will be that. If they’ve got any sense the police will not disclose the contents of my video and they’ll see how the stories match up.

Ding! I think some people get stuck at some point while growing up, and basically never grow up in the emotional sense. I’m really glad that things are moving on for you, you’ve just got to keep doing what you’re doing, and know your rights. It helps to keep a log book.

Maybe have a real one, and a more obvious decoy one? I’m sure you could find a broken one on ebay? The bully may be more likely to talk if they think that they destroyed your camera?
Is that too devious or flawed somehow?

It’s devious and involves far too much planning. I don’t intend to be assaulted again, so if I leave the house and the neighbours start acting weirdly and scarily again I’ll go back inside and phone the police to say I don’t feel safe.

Ironically the neighbour had been blaming my daughter’s pets for noises the neighbour keeps complaining about. I was at my daughter’s house this evening just after the police visited and because she was lying in bed the house was unusually quiet. Then I heard a noise very similar to the one the neighbour had complained of. My daughter had previously told me she had heard it too. I took out my mobile phone and was able to video record a tour of the house showing that the noise which was picked up by the phone was not coming from inside the house.
It’s been very windy today and I think the noise is related to the wind. If only we could convince the neighbours of this we could work together to find what is really making those noises.

Or just the audio, without anyone else making noise. I have a voice recorder that I use when I travel to get a sound picture of where I am. If that makes sense?

That does make a lot of sense. I can conceal my phone and set it to sound record before leaving the house, as a precaution.
There’s no way I’m going to deliberately put myself at risk of assault again, but my duty to my disabled daughter carries a residual risk as I’m liable to be needed at any time of day or night at which she’s highly distressed and possibly drawing attention. Recording audio at such times could be useful to police in a variety of contexts.
I really wish I were an organised person.
Edit: oh sorry about the tangent. I belatedly realise you’re talking about the audio of the existing video. Sorry, the answer is still no. As my argument I submit the plot of the film The Conversation. A sound recording on analysis may reveal the contents of activities in a private residence. That’s pretty much the definition of snooping.

It depends on the gain, this recorder has a fixed gain and was used to record really, really loud shouting 3 meters away, if you can imagine someone yelling at the top of their lungs at any time of day right next door while leaning half their body out of the window, day or night… It’s sound activated, and doesn’t activate until someone shouts. That’s the context I was thinking about… not high gain whispering stuff.
My point being, that you don’t need to record every word, just the most loud ones.

More food throwing (tomatoes this time) and another police visit. They say they’ve been patrolling the area but it clearly still hasn’t deterred whoever it is. Case meeting next Wednesday (police only) and they’d be really happy if I were to get some nighttime CCTV.
Edit: I’ve ordered an infrared illuminator which we ought to be able to temporarily install outside the master bedroom window. It would be really good if we could install it without drawing attention. I think just dangling stuff out of the window after dark is preferable to going to all the trouble of installing it under the eaves or on the brick wall.

It’s been weeks since I commented on my concerns about the lifting of the lockdown in my area. Sunderland is still not so bad but to my north lies the area of South Tyneside (I like to call it Northern Mesopotamia since we all live here between the two great rivers Tyne and Wear). Their reported Covid-19 cases are very high, four times as high as Sunderland and nearly as high as parts of the Greater Manchester area where the government has expressed severe concern.
The schools are going back soon. I’m very worried about this because there are many good arguments for restoring normal socialisation and personal development pathways to children, but the risk of an outbreak is still quite high.

I’m listening to the coverage of the US general election. The President is babbling nonsense about soup. Boris’s Britain is bad enough, but somehow America manages to be even worse.

This is very personal to me. It’s my generation that seems to be lapping this poisonous crap up most enthusiastically. I don’t understand how they can have lived as long as I have and yet be so blind. How did the most rabid conspiracy theories ever created come to the dinner table of political discourse? Boomers are the worst generation.
