That’s the idea, go on the offensive-post the video on YT and if you can get a Facebook page going. I know “cancel-culture” gets a bad rap these days but use it to your advantage. Friend their employers, church leaders and local businesses and share the video with them. No one wants to be associated with a racist, sexist or bully of any kind anymore.

when I was in high school one of my best friends sisters was autistic , she was a person ! thoughts , dreams , feelings may not have been expressed like the rest of us but she was a unique wonderful person . a good lesson in humanity for are group of friends [ thank goodness] . so yeah we did not put up with anyone harassing kids with psychical or mental challenges / deference’s .the only way into the future will be a hand up to everyone not pushing down to seem like you are get up in life. recent events should make this very clear .

I know the idea of shaming is well meant, but it’s a high risk strategy. If it backfired (which is quite possible in this region) the pressure on my daughter would be ten times worse. And if I managed to get some people sacked this would not stop the harassment and might simply give the harassers more spare time and determination to harass.

I am going to work with the police instead. Getting them to take these crimes seriously is my best bet. If they don’t I already have a relationship with our local MP who has helped my daughter to get her medical needs reassessed. She may be able to bring some pressure to bear. But I’m getting ahead of myself. I’ll take the police as far as I can lead them first, then consider what to do if the response isn’t adequate to my daughter’s needs.

Yes, i agree. The last thing you want is more unwanted attention to her. Its prolly a lot to handle as is right now.

She was suicidal last night. I think sharing the burden with her old dad has made it much better for her tonight, though now it’s my turn to lose sleep with the worry.

The shamelessness of the harassers has wrongfooted me. What do you do if you’re dealing with people who have no perceptible moral base? These people enlisted their innocent children to stand jeering in the street.

I wish her a lot of strength, you as well.

That’s what I’m here for. I’ve taken her to A&E many times after suicide attempts. I’ve talked her out of making such attempts many times more than that.

If anybody was wondering why it takes me months to make a few resin ice cubes and solder a couple of components together, welcome to my day job.

Its very exhausting attending to someone in that state. You are doing good work.

ah man shit … :disappointed_relieved:. hold onto her , we need her and all the sensitive / different people! when they are gone we [ humanity ] is lost . and dam that has got to rip you apart inside . what you are going through is tough and you are being manlier than any 4 star general out there .

I wouldn’t put it quite like that but I love the sentiments expressed. Thank you.

She is very bright and great to be with, but it wouldn’t make any difference if she had the IQ of a floormop. This is a matter of basic human dignity.

I think that’s one noticeable way in which the world has become a better place over the course of my lifetime. People who are callous and hateful still exist, but they find it harder to fit in than when I was a young man. As a carer I have access to tools and services that previous generations would not have dared to dream of. It’s not perfect but it’s better than it was. A half century of legislation culminating in the Equality Act (2010) has changed the landscape of human dignity.

It’s great being a father to this young woman.

Here’s a video my daughter made while walking Neve in the cold air.

Asperger’s wasn’t really widely diagnosed in children when I was in school. Years into adulthood I worked with a former social worker who said she suspected I was “…on the spectrum.” Those online pseudo-tests definitely indicate that I’d fit the bill, but I’d venture that you could say that about more than a few of us on the forum. I’m getting some deja vu here-did we discuss that likelihood already?

There are degrees. The whole family is different, but only my daughter is cripplingly disabled by autism. She needs quite heavy sedation just to function, and even that doesn’t always work.

A police officer who is familiar with my daughter’s disability has responded to my email. I’m going to send her the video recordings we made. It’s a hopeful sign that she’s asking for this material, but I’m not holding my breath.

Good news. The crime recorded has been upgraded to a hate crime because of the evidence provided in the videos we made.

My daughter will be giving a statement as soon as this can be organised.
