How do you make them?

I might just be stupid but I am thinking of buying one of the PCBs and I can’t seem to work out how you tell where to put each type of resistor etc. If anyone could explain it would be very helpful

Go to https://www.lookmumnocomputer.com/projects and click the one you’re interested in. A lot of the information is also silkscreened onto the boards.

Also, depending on the module, @lookmumnocomputer has build videos showing you!

If you’ve never built an electronics project of this kind before, the LMNC modules might not be the best to start with — there are other kits out there (not for Kosmo modules though, of course) that have detailed step by step written instructions, PCB diagrams with all part positions shown, etc., that are more beginner friendly. Not that a beginner can’t do one of Sam’s, especially a simpler one like the Mini Mixer, and I don’t want to discourage you if you really want to start with one, but if you’re worried there are other possibilities.

AI Synthesis for instance has some very beginner friendly Eurorack modules. You could always replace the front panels with Kosmo size ones and replace the 3.5 mm jacks with 1/4" ones, if you wanted to Kosmofy them, or you could get the Euro Play Set one of this group’s members came up with to mount Eurorack modules in a Kosmo case.

Components are clearly identified on the board by their reference designator (R1, R2, C1, C2 etc) and/or by their values ( 680R = 680 ohms, 470K = 470000 ohms, 5K6 = 5600 ohms, 1nf = 1 nanofarad, etc)

Dont be scared to try it, dont be scared to make mistakes! We all start that way, and pretty much make mistakes even still.

Yeah chances are even if you get some resistor values misplaced it shouldn’t effect it too much. Just need to make sure Diodes and Polarized capacitors and ICs in the right orientation.

Sam’s Don’t be scared to try it is the best of starts. We were all there once and even today there are some concepts or techniques that give me pause. But crack on, ask all you need, pause and work each stage out. That’s part of the fun for me. Sam’s boards are a lot roomier and kinder than many kits out there. JFDI Friend.

That’s a good point. Still, some people need more guidance than others and would benefit from written, detailed, step by step instructions with clear drawings or photographs. (Video isn’t suited to everyone.) Maybe that would be a good project for someone, writing up beginners’ level assembly instructions for LMNC modules. I’d again point to the AI Synthesis build guides as good examples.

A really good place to start would be AI Synthesis - while small, and eurorack size - They have incredibly good step by step guides and you can buy their modules as full kits!

Once you get the hang of wetting some pads and such, jump into KOSMO headfirst and never look back  <3
