Stupid question , but in the ARDUINO NANO based 8 step sequencer https://www.lookmumnocomputer.com/sequencer-keyboard do you cut the tracks under the nano from end to end , ie the red dots ( approx)

yes , if you don’t the pins across from each other will short .

YEP! in general, cut traces for Integrated circuits (IC / chips) or for microcontrollers like nanos which have pins on two sides.
