Sounds that make your heart warm (Nostalgia Share Thread)

The art of understatement is difficult to impart.

Oh that reminds me of the venerable Spectrum game Brian Bloodaxe. The Monty Python theme is an old Souza march (The Liberty Bell) so they didn’t have to pay royalties to the BBC or ask for permission. They could even call their hero Brian, though any further python references might have been tempting a cease and desist letter.

The sound of a Gameboy firing up does it for me.

I don’t know why but this is the one that springs to mind. I’m wondering if it got any traction outside the US.

Here in Europe we learned to count from this Rheinland blues classic.

wasn’t sure were to put this , but it is a great look into synth sound and sound in general . of course it is Mr Henson’s opinion on things but makes you think about sound for sure .

Watched that recently. It definitely got me thinking. Going spartan with the number of sounds certainly helps.

Yeah, watched that a couple of days ago too. There’s a lot of voodoo in his reasoning, but the result is pretty great :+1:

Found my old turtle beach sound card today with two Roland GM chips. General MIDI Helicopter ride anyone?

A relatively recent album but it really tickles my nostalgia.

Thanks for calling me out on that one; I should have been more specific. A little after 13:00 he starts talking about the sense of hearing being our most acute and things like high pitches being perceived as more feminine and safer because, for example, it’s the sound of your mom singing you to sleep. Everything up to that point is very factual and well explained. When people say things like “there’s just something about our brains that understands…”, my bullshit meter goes high. It doesn’t necessarily mean they’re wrong, just that they’re hand waving and guessing. My final example is around 23:50 when he tries to describe why we like vintage synths.
