Portakosmo Case Idea

Hey @lookmumnocomputer, I saw in the last video you were having some trouble with bits breaking off of Portakosmo modules when they were mounted flush with the case during transport. It got me thinking of a case design for flush modules that would still be portable and durable enough to transport, this is what I came up with:

This is a modular case design (modular for your modulars) where each case interlocks and acts as a protector for the one behind it, with an extra lid for the one at the front, then just tie a couple of ratchet straps around the whole thing to hold it together.

No idea if this’d be practical, probably not but I thought I’d put it out there anyway! Peace :sunglasses:

Or … y’know … don’t mount them flush.

…and if you want to connect them, connect the cases with sunk-in modules (as in: not flush) face-to-face. This avoids the need for an additional face plate (= extra weight), and it is lighter to carry two combined cases than four combined cases.

That makes the end modules harder to use, though, and the cases bigger/heavier.

I wonder how well installing mounting rails that are slightly curved (such that end modules are angled towards you) would help with that problem. You’d need to make the case a bit deeper and possibly use small standoffs to avoid twisting your panels, but it’d be a fun experiment to see how much curve i could get and have it still be feasible.

Make the whole synth curved…

(Though, the “portable” part is lost  )

Pym particles, problem solved.

I’m going to need longer arms … and bigger pants.

Pym particles, problem solved, again.
