My build progress

Thank you for the source  I don’t used matched transistors but I want to test this to make the difference

Youha it’s finally the week-end ! I take quickly the opportunity to play with my soldering iron and to dance with my breadboard ! :upside_down_face:

My night construction is an ADSR module with a loop/lfo mod, because we never have enough envelopes ! :stuck_out_tongue:

The circuit is a 9v adaptation of a Nicolas Woollaston’s design:

My next project for finish my part of envelope generators will be a simple double decay circuit module.

I wish you a happy weekend and a lot of beautiful constructions !!!

I managed to ramble incoherently for a few minutes about that release-envelope-generator: DIY dual release envelope generator Eurorack module - YouTube

If you put a 10kOhm resistor in parallel to a 100 kOhm potentiometer, by approximation you have a 10kOhm potentiometer.

What?! This is a fantastic trick, I had no idea!

But not a very good approximation. More than half the action occurs in the first 10% of the pot’s travel, and at maximum it’s 9.1k, not 10k. It’ll kind of work if you’re desperate but not all that well.

(At 0% pot position it’s a short. At 10% the effective resistance is 10k||10k = 5k. At 20% it’s 20k||10k = 6.7k. At 30%, 7.5k. Then the last 70% of travel gives you the last 1.6k: at 100% it’s 100k||10k = 9.1k.)

Nice job and great circuit !! I build a single power supply version of the BMC043 4xdecay EG by Barton Musical, envelope are always very useful !!

I was wondering if there was some way to fudge it. Thanks!

I could have sworn I plotted this in some thread, but searched failed me so here’s a fresh plot:

After much procrastination and delay tactics, I finally broke out the soldering iron. The toppers on the POTs are colour coded for the various MFOS WSG functions: red for voice one, green for voice two, blue for the filter, orange is volume* and yellow are for the looney mod.

I also soldered up a couple of patch cables. Which reminded me just how much I hate soldering jack plugs… I seems like I can only ever get the tip, or the sleeve, to solder nicely, not both.

*Turns out I do have a 10K POT, it’s a logarithmic one, rather than a linear one though.

Welcome to the WSG club  There’s at least three of us here (and at least five WSGs).

I really like this vca, you made a good choice. I believe it is one of my favorites among the non OTA, given the simplicity and quality it exhibits.
You will no notice any difference if you use combined pairs or not, however this is necessary because it can become sensitive to variations in ambient temperature and to avoid noise if your PSU starts to be highly demanded due to the use of several modules in the system.
This VCA is inside Arturia Mini / Micro Brute (with variations between them) and maybe Poly and Matrix too, I will try to confirm this with Mr. Yves Usson (yusynth).

Here some original schematics links:

I want to take the opportunity to thank all who makes this community.
They are helping me in many ways in these strange days.

Thank you for your feedback and for links, I note your interessant explication about matching transistors  I like it very much too !! This is the first VCA with bipolar power supply I have build, I have also build a lot of 9v VCA; if someone want some schematics tell to me !

I am happy to be able to participate in the knowledge sharing and to receive your precious help. The DIY is a large and beautiful community where mutual aid and exchanges are magnificent and essential values. It is passion that guides us ! Thank at all aliens of this forum!! :kissing_heart:
Have a good week !!

Hey,
Soon, I think that I go to open a post dedicated specially about 9v circuits for modular projects or for other fart noise boxes, if that could be interested someones…?
