Sounds like what you need (and maybe I do too) is an MFOS Sound Lab Mini Synth

It’s got two VCOs and a noise source but aside from that it seems a good match to your wish list.

I know the sound lab mini, but it is “hardwired” with some switches.
But maybe taking each part of the schematic as the “almost simplest” way of doing each function, and putting normalled jacks inbetween them, it may be a good choice… A proven one at least.

Ray’s circuits descriptions are really well done.
The schematics are drawn in a somewhat… special… way, but they are still understandable without too much hassle.

I’ll have to check if all intermediate signal levels are Kosmo spec’d…

I have seen +/-12 adaptations of some MFOS circuits. Very rarely needed and easily adapted. I have not seen any unusually large signal levels in any of ray’s work…except the noise toaster which is a brute.

This being meant as a test rig, all the signals should be as close as possible to the specs’ values, not too high, but not too low either.
I see lots of breadboarding in my future :slight_smile:
And some hunting for replacements for some of the JFET’s…

Oops, I was looking at the Mark II, and it runs on +/-12V.
Quite more complicated, but probably a better choice…

You probably could add jacks to the Sound Lab to make it semimodular.

The Sound Lab Mark II runs on ±12 V and has some patch points already.

Well, that was a certain amount of grief and a very large amount of procrastination, but I finally discovered two caps I’d installed with wrong values. Now it seems to be working. Finally a new module for Kosmodrome!

Today I tested successfully Sub Oscillator, Buffered Multi, Gate/Trigger Dial Phone, Megamodule, Noise 5, and after all this good moment … PAF !
a little problem with the Mixer/Cross Fader, but now the module works fine :grin:

I love that we’re so international here and yet all so cosmopolitan. So many words and accents for a cap explosion! PIFF PAFF POFF POUF etc and yet together we agree that the smoke was blue.

Hi, i’ve just finished building the MFOS reverb myself, I’m not to worried about the overload problem at the moment but I was wondering if you found the reverb overly muddy and dark? I have the right tank and have checked all my values etc. It just seems like all the high end has been rolled off. Thanks.

actually haven’t tried it yet still need to make face panel and get a pile of other stuff working . I do have several types of tanks and will try them . there are probably some component values that can be changed to adjust to roll off , couldn’t tell you what though .

There are adjustments you can make to the driver side amplitude that would prevent loss of top end. Cleaning the springs helps as they sometimes have grease on them and look for a clean contact at the pickup end (both ends actually).
A wrong resistor or dry joint can up the gain too much on the driver clipping off the top of the signal.

I looked up the gain mods and gave them a try (R20 from 10k to 24k and R24 from 100k to 2.5k) it took the gain down but didnt make much difference to the high end, also when the input was overloaded it made one of the IC’s lock up (I suspect the LM13700) I had to switch it on and off again to clear it. I’ve put it back to standard for now as i dont wanna start cooking IC’s. The tank I have is brand new, when I twang the springs there is plenty of high end so the issue must be on the driver side.

Today i tested with succes (no Paf :slight_smile: ) a Triple (slow) LFO, a Dual AD/AR and a excellent Steiner/Parker VCF ! happy day !

I have the mfos spring verb. Kinda have the same deal, it definitely doesn’t sound super bright. I didn’t do any mods

Kinda disapointing considering mine was a legit kit with parts from soundtronics :confused: I’ve contacted them so hopefully they will come up with some mods to make it more useable. Its great for weird effects but pretty useless as a reverb.

Mine still sounds good, so maybe mine isn’t as bad cause I wasn’t disappointed, just noticed it, quite a bit different sounding than digital reverb obviously but this is my first spring so I don’t have anything else to compare to
