Whoo woop! Got a good deal on the Proks set I wanted a while back!
Ohhh theyre so cute too! Little tiny drums!
Been so focused on Kosmo format stuff recently lol
Now onto parts gathering =D

That sounds awesomly weird. I might have to build one.
Domino effect! @d42kn355 got a Zoom recorder which prompted @Bitnik to get a Tascam recorder which prompted me to get this:
Useful? We shall see…
ive often considered getting a zoom recorder, but then i remember i dont go anywhere and i have a computer + daw im already comfortable with. Hope it works well for you
At the moment I’ve only used mine to record bass practice sessions. There are a few outdoor sounds I’d like to play with, though. One which may be difficult to capture but worth a try is an old parabolic sound reflector on a hill nearby. This was likely used in pre-radar days to listen for military ship or Zeppelin engines off the coast. Putting synth sounds through that might be interesting.
Or maybe I could haul my bass and amp up there and play it. How would I power it?
My Kosmo synth is in the basement, because there’s not enough room upstairs, and my computer and Grey Meanie are upstairs, because the basement gets too cold in winter. I actually bought a used laptop some time ago with the intention of using it for recording, but then it developed hardware errors. And there’s an old Mac in the basement, but I didn’t want to use Mac OS and it turns out there are problems with running Linux on it. So at least for now I have this, and I can also use it for recording stuff elsewhere.
That might be fun. Outside recording would be difficult, I think, with anything less than 100W. I could use a tiny portable speaker and maybe get something that would sound interesting after processing. Or maybe just record the bass as an acoustic resonator near the sound mirror. The mirror is an acoustic amplifier so it would be fun to play with the concept. A shame I have no skill with my daughter’s violin. She may let me borrow it for a demo, and if it’s interesting enough she might want to lend her skills to the effort.
Incidentally the Swedish synth group Covenant has a song that appears to be inspired by this sound mirror. It’s called Sound Mirrors (Fulwell.)
The sound is somewhat reminiscent of the Steampunk band Abney Park. Strong British eighties synthpop influences.
Anyone in need of dual gang b50k? Or have ideas of what I could use them for?
The BMC Stereo Out specifies five dual gang B100k pots, but they’re all voltage dividers so using B50k instead should work just fine.
Unfortunately if you use the BMC PCB it has footprints for 16 mm board mounted pots, not 9 mm. And they’re probably too close together for your taste anyway if you’re building Kosmo. You could try to panel mount them but those plus the four panel mounted single gang pots add up to 42 wires you’d have to run.
I did a Kosmo format variant with a different headphone amp and my own PCB layout with board mounted pots/sliders, but it was stupidly designed so I have not published the PCB, just the schematic and panel.
Ohh nice one! ill have a look at that one later, after I’ve soldered up the drums boards =)
Can’t believe i was so stupid… but it happens sometimes lol
At least it gives me more projects to do, and a reason to make another Thonk order XD going to pick up a 3360 (as it seems pretty easy to stripboard[and who doesn’t need more VCAs]) and a spare 3340 =)
Ive realised i like three 3340’s for a bassy sound and a single 3340 for melody.
Ill venture into other VCOs one day… Ive sure of it XD
Just received my first order from a legit components supplier, TME. They sure pack things differently than Aliexpress tends to, huh.
A lot of stuff, just don’t ask me what it’s for… If I bought them, I probably thought it was a good idea 1 or 2 months ago while I was gathering info and reading plans. It’s all common component I saw comes up everywhere, like 10uf electrolytic capacitors. For more exotic values, I have limited stocks from the assortments I bought, and for the few I don’t have, I can sub in another value and see whether it catches on fire or not.
More interestingly, a lot of CMOS chips. I’m very intrigued to experiment with the Lunetta / CMOS Synth style. I grabbed 5 or 10 of everything that ever came up in the Hackaday Logic Noise series.
I had good success with this one:
