Today front panel for my polysynth arrived. I decided to build a Kosmo style case for it. That also means feature set is now fixed to what I have on the panel. I am obviously not a designer but I am quite happy with the result.
Cool!
…
what is it
The form factor may be different from what you expect. It is a 60W soldering gun in a rugged bakelite casing. I’m not sure how old it is. 40 years? Maybe more.
Heated tweezers, for soldering tiny SMD resistors. I think.
LOL ![]()
No, just a simple soldering gun, this kind was common in Europe in the '70s and '80s.
The body contained a good heavy transformator, and the tip heated “itself” on the thiner end with the high current going thru it.
It was made by swiss company engel for the opposite of smd: to solder copper roof gutters and sheets of copper.
I only recently came across this kind of iron while watching a construction video for a guitar effects pedal:
Looks like it allows some nifty one handed soldering!
EDIT: Don’t know why, even though the youtube link has a timestamp in it, it’s not skipping to the interesting part @ 47:48 - so unless you want to sit through the whole thing maybe navigate there yourself.
Cheers
Two transformers. Huh, wonder what that’s gonna be.
Sample and hold chips. Huh, wonder what that’s gonna be.
One modulator to rule them all…
Received this lot from JLCPCB: some PCBs I designed for Multi-Filt-O-Matic, a state variable filter, Decadent-Count-O-Matic, a decade counter and Bin-Count-O-Matic, a binary counter.
A Eurorack Synth Noodle Toaster v2 PCB, LCD screen, pre-flashed ATMEGA644p, and some tactile switches; all from amazingsynth.com.
yea parts , now I can put a few projects together .
you may have noticed the card board dual vco’s , a friend of mine worked out the ins and outs for a couple of ELECTROSMITH vco’s and now I am going to make the face plates for these [ for him ] and an other pair for me .
Ordered myself a nice Christmas present, they arrived yesterday. Now i need to properly install them. Very exited about the automatic alignment software.
Final piece of my recording setup I’ve been working on for the last couple of weeks (aka lack of build progress)
What is it that the software aligns?
I got my Rigol DS1054Z three years ago and I love it. Beware that the probes are not great quality. For a while I thought one of the channels was broken until I found out it was the probe and not the scope itself. Now, after almost 4 years, the second probe stopped working too. I would invest in some good third party probes over time but other than that it’s a fantastic piece of equipment.
Man those ciat-lonbardes always look so interesting and cool.
What do they do?
