Scored this “drumfire” DF-500

Can’t find a ton of info about it but it’s got the look :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Added more modules to do - at least TimMJN has all the spices to stretch a modular session out for days with another time and space traveling device.

Whats it supposed to do?

Internet says it’s a 5-channel simple analog drum synth with external piezo triggers and a mixer. Schematics/samples/mods etc here:

Yeah, it’s basically 5 Thomas Henry bd+ in a box lol.

This month’s AllPCB freebies are pretty tiny. This is a remix of Emilie Gillet’s potentiometer Breadboard Friends. I decided I didn’t like having the pin sockets down in between the pots so I rearranged them.

Keyboard sequencer boards arrived today and I have pretty much everything to start building.
Except one thing, what’s the Arduino code Sam?

Yes @lookmumnocomputer , there’s no code in the project page

whey what a rookie error. ill put up version one now sorry. ill have a new one by the end of the week. however im also pretty sure someone is going to look it and go oh my god what the hell is that and make their own version. couple of adjustments need to be made to make the capacitive touch smoother when held down for longer durations whilst receiving clock thats the next change im doing this week

also another feature I haven’t yet put in it is the means of choosing the buttons to play in a sequence like an arp select, im pretty sure when I mentioned the idea when I started figuring this sequencer project out @analogoutput put the feature into his code for the keyboard sequencer. also a couple of other things ill put in.

but first this week is smoothing out the response of the capacitive pads, they are fine for going to a step and playing as a keyboard without a clock in right now, but the code needs some finessing for holding your finger down on it whilst also receiving clocks which for a few milliseconds will ignore clock pulses.

it is uploaded, you’ll notice its basically exactly the same as the old one, except the section that reads the button pushes is an analog read instead of a digital read. and then there is a threshold you can adjust of how sensitive you’d like the pads, however where it is on the code seems good, a few people have played on it in the museum and I havent seen someone with hands drier than the Sahara that cannot trigger them on that sensitivity.

the last difference is the merge output. that pin on the Arduino selects between the first and second row for the CV merge output. currently it just bounces between the two making a 16 step sequence on the merge output, but I think I will make it so if you for instance put a jack out from one of the separate gate outputs into the reset input it bounces between the two steps aswelll. that way if for instance you put a gate out jack on the 3rd step and plug it into the reset the merge output will actually be a 6 step sequence instead of a 3 step sequence. It currently does not do this. it would just do a 3 step sequence.

just ordered the 16 B100K’s from thonk.

Latest addition to the set-up: 8 channel stereo rack mixer and patch bay. Quite surprised how happy it is with the synth levels! Gonna use this as my output mixer for now. Also, I’m gonna need longer patch cables…

Product page says “highest possible headroom” and spec says +22 dBu which is ±13.8 V (peak) which is indeed pretty high.

Not exactly no computer but today two Daisy Seeds and OPL3 Duo showed up. I’m thrilled to test out @Jos Vocoder. Also fiddling with FM synthesis seems quite interesting to me. OPL3 Duo has two Yamaha YMF262 to get noise out.

Btw. is somebody at the Superbooth in Berlin in September? I will be there at 18th of September if somebody is interested in meeting. This is quite off topic but I didn’t know where to put it.
