Mail Day Thread

Many years ago…like about 2002 or so I bought an MC505 Groovebox off a guy on Ebay and when it arrived the guy also gave me a TR505 and an Art FX Box for free. Now ask me which one of the 3 I have left in my studio? :joy:

I hacked together a 9v and barrel connector, gave it a clean and gave it a power up. It lives! And all works so far =)
First thing I thought was ‘how can I mod this’
Gonna learn how to use it stock for now… id feel so guilty frying it XD
But some of the mods are awesome! This ‘has’ to happen

I love the lack of menu diving and hands on playing/modulating.

i have a tr707 a got on the cheap [ broken hh fader ] it has trigger outs for each drum sound ,very handy as a sequencer . does the 505 have those ?

just looked it up . well no , but it does have midi so you can time it with the modular rig

Nah, its got L R mono out, headphone out, start/stop pedal in, cassette tape back up, midi in out.
So at a guess I can use a BSP (or modded big button) to control it over midi, as long as its not an archaic format XD
But with some mods I can make it so =D

always liked the grid layout to the programming and no menu diving , simple and easy / quick to program

Device X,

If you want trigger out and separated drum audio out then a TR-626 will become handy. I’m a fan of my TR-626 and while I’ve never found a need for a TR-505 I have an obsession with Roland’s acid series to a point that I don’t see why I don’t get a TR-505. As right now I have my TR-606 and my TR-707. I’m not too obsessed with having a complete set in that there’s so many other synths like the SH-101 I’m not losing any sleep over not having it or perhaps it’s the only one that tried a real keyboard and it seems to be trying to win too many awards. I have even sold my Boutique SH-01A.

Device X,

The accomplishment of getting one of everything Roland may take a while to unlock.

I’ve literally just found out Roland made the cutest orange amps in the 80’s and my perfect home amp will be mine oh yes.

yes being rich as f#*k and living in Japan would probably help with that quest .
I wonder if Roland has one of everything ?

So while I don’t have my TR505 anymore I did just remember that the guys over at Circuit Benders UK have a patchbay mod and a pitch bend mod for the TR505.

This may increase Output or sum Output in the future.

Haha! That description of the 505 got me good!
Im kinda looking to mod it myself, surely theres a sweetheart of a mind that’s released the info (or info similar). Ive bookmarked them but ill keep searching =)
I wouldnt mind figuring out how to add a back light on the lcd… urgh I feel a wish list coming on. Ha!
I like the idea of making a case with patch panel more than cramming things onto its old plastic face =)

When I find enough info ill make a new topic rather than jacking this one more =p

would love be able to afford having circuitbenders.co.uk bend my 707 they have some great mods , more than I have the skill for or would dare to do .

Ohhhhhh nice, a Spendy-McSpendy thread :joy:

I picked up a few too many modules over the last couple of weeks (urghhhhhh), but did get some nice end-of-line kits including a Hexinverter Mutant kit… and a Shruthi. And a CV-Pal as well.

It’s my birthday coming up, so this is all self-gifting. I’m a better judge of the stuff I want to hoard than my partner :joy:

Bad pictures, but the Hexinverter is not scratched, it’s a protective film with hidden edges designed to scare the shit out of you.

Got this lot today, forgot it was 3 x 100 feet reels of the stuff… should be fun to use in my Minolta 16mm mk2.

“negative medium speed” which for mere mortals means as much as: play them backwards at a moderate speed I guess.

But fun aside. This is black and white film for a motion camera?
