Mail Day Thread

I sure hope its right! I have a ton now XD

It is, to start with, a PNP transistor, whereas the 2N3904 is NPN.

My guess is you can use it to substitute for 2N3906.

Well, it’s not a 2N3904, so if that’s what you needed you ordered the wrong thing

Not sure about the exact differences, beyond the package (EDIT: and the fact that this is a PNP, not an NPN, d’oh); from a very quick look at a random datasheet, they look somewhat similar, except that the metal version can handle a bit more power.

(but note that they’re between $0.50 and $15/ea new from mouser/digikey (the latter mil speced), so if you got them for a lot cheaper than that off AliExpress they may not even be 2N2904s)

I got a bulk deal, so it seemed a safe bet even if it is wrong

In the sixties we used to use transistor testers. A really good multimeter would have a tester built in. You’d be able to insert the legs of the transistor and it would tell you the characteristics of the transistor you had rather than the transistor you thought you had.

I don’t have that function on any meters because I’m a cheapskate, but it does seem to me like a good investment if you’re buying potentially dodgy silicon.

Those cheap mcu yellow component testers are excellent for transistors.

That’s quite a looker. Great design.

I bought a small multimeter for a bit less than 5 USD which does have a transistor tester in it. So, being a cheapskate is no excuse …

Hi folks, I haven’t written anything for a while because I was busy jamming  A few weeks ago I got a MicroBrute as a gift. (Should land on the trash) And I already had a Korg Volca sample. Two days ago I got a Pocket Operator 12 (rhythm) as a gift, it’s slowly starting to make jamming fun!

Anyway, a friend from another forum sent me a couple of boards, the modules / devices are probably known to everyone, he made the layouts for them himself.

There are:
1x MFOS Stereo Auto Panner
1x MFOS Dual Log / Lin VCA
1x Dual Buchla LPG
1x YUSYNTH Saw Wave Animator
1x YUSYNTH Steiner VCF
1x SCREEMIN TUBEZ
1x 4x CV distributor
2x dual Thomas Henry ADSR

I’m particularly looking forward to the Steiner Parker Filter, I’ve already started to build Eddy Bergman’s version, which, like the ones from my friend, come from Yusynth. I’m curious to see if there are any serious differences.

So, soon there will be a little more of me in “My build progress”.

Take care
Cheers THOGRE

My early Christmas present arrived today!
I’v been using this exact model for couple of months (borrowed it from a friend).
But now finally bought my own.

Four channels is cool.
I got a two channels one three years ago, that was before I got into analog synth.
But I can’t justify replacing it yet…

Honestly I haven’t used more that two channels while I was testing it out. But it’s nice to have the option. It had the best price/performance one that was available locally, had a good discount.

With a four channel, you connect one on the input, one on the output, one to the point you think there is a problem. The last one can be used if more than one input or output are used.

Yeah, in the couple months I’ve owned mine I haven’t yet opened the bag with the second two probes. If there were a lower priced Rigol scope similar to this with two channels — as far as I can see there isn’t — I would’ve bought it. But I’ll probably end up using more than two channels at some point.

Still without my Neutron cover from Thomann. Today I made some time available to collect it, and used the Metro. It’s just one stop along but on foot it would be a very unpleasant trudge up a busy road. Set out around 3pm, I thought, plenty of time before the shop shuts at 5:30.

Then this happened:

Here’s what the notice says:

Of course they have reduced opening hours. That’s predictable when the shop is in the middle of nowhere.

That is a nice piece of Equipment!

I got mine a few months ago for 25€ , its an “Advance Instruments OS250”

It was built in 1986, has two canals and weighs as much as a piglet. But it still works fine. I have to clean the potentiometers when I get the chance.
