Introductions: Say hello, tell us about yourself and your projects

Welcome! You probably won’t blow yourself up, but inevitably you end up sacrificing a few TL072s to the synth gods.

I have no idea what that is, but I look forward to melting one soon

A little beast with legs like this

It’s a double Ampli op, you can find them in a lot of modules

Thought it was supposed to look like this?

I have cooked a few pizzas over the years that have turned out like that, so I’m confident I can achieve this.

Cool stickers! Are you using Julia for work or for fun?

Haha thanks  Julia for both work and fun  Actually all my daily analysis and every single calculation and plot in my PhD is done with Julia. I am pushing hard for it in astroparticle and high-energy physics, here are some of my projects:

GitHub - JuliaPhysics/Corpuscles.jl: Julia package for particle physics (PDG particle properties library)
GitHub - tamasgal/UnROOT.jl: Native Julia I/O package to work with CERN ROOT files (high-performance ROOT I/O purely written in Julia)
GitHub - KM3NeT/Neurthino.jl: Neutrino oscillation probability calculator (Neutrino oscillation through Earth)

After so many years of being author and maintainer for Python-based frameworks in our field (or actually wrappers for high-performance libraries) I really hope that Julia will take off and end this madness.

Nice! When I started my PhD I pushed hard for Python instead of Matlab, but now I am regretting it a little bit  I experimented a bit with Julia and liked it a lot! But there was no way convincing my supervisors/colleagues to move to a new language again :grinning:
So, still using Python for data preparation / analysis stuff (cpp and Fortran for the core models), also built a simple subglacial hydrology model in it which is now ported to cpp/mpi by another group. I would really like try doing it in Julia again, but I have too much other stuff to do xD.

Im guesing this is what happens when you put the an op amp in upside down? Haha

First rule of op amp club.
Don’t swap about op amp club

Hello all.
I’m Jonnypanic. I’m a huge megadrive fanboy so first watched LMNC when he did the megadrive synth mod, and was thoroughly entertained. Since then i’ve gotten more into synth stuff, having been making post-punk stuff for years. Now am thoroughly on the way to having a gear addiction. I’m very much still a novice when it comes to synths but now know enough to use it in my post-punk tunes. Nice to meet you all.

Hello Eddy. I have about 2 years experience with Eurorack and I have built a couple of your strip board module designs. Great work!- thank you. I have very little engineering knowledge but following your diagrams and the excellent descriptions you provide have helped me at least get an idea of what I am doing. I have just finished building the 7555 ADSR (Yusynth) in Eurorack format. It works, but not completely and I need some guidance. I’ve attempted to contact you through your webpage but have trouble there- my posts don’t seem to get through. If you don’t mind please advise me as to how to reach you. And to anyone else reading this my apologies for being off topic, but this is the only way I know to get to Eddy. Thank you!

If you can’t comment on my website then maybe you don’t have a Google account? Anyway, you can message me on Facebook. or post on the page of the Facebook group that goes with my website. You can find that in the menu on my website. I’ll try and see if I can message you on this forum and I’ll give you my email address.

There is a theory that the smoke is installed at the factory, to make the device work. Don’t let the magic smoke escape.

Hey everyone! Long time lurker - finally decided to join! I’ve been wanting to build a Kosmo synth for a while and finally decided to jump in. I’ve got a little bit of experience building (and troubleshooting my mistakes) guitar pedals from PCBs, so I’m hoping this shouldn’t be much of a jump. I’ve currently got 1 Kosmo module that I’m about to start on, and just placed an order for 9 more, that should keep me busy for a while! Just waiting for the VCO to come back in stock

As of right now my ultimate goal is to eventually build the megadrive synth. It’s a long way out for me considering the lack of circuitry knowledge I have, but it would be amazing!

Also, if anyone has any modules that are no longer available that they would like to part with, please let me know! I don’t anticipate anyone will, but I had to throw it out there! Excited to start building and being active in the community!

Welcome!

In a way, synths are easier to build than pedals. You don’t have to fit everything into a tiny metal box and grounding/shielding is a lot less important.

If you want to use your pedals with your synth you could build a pedal adapter like the AI-006(designed for Eurorack but the voltages are the same so you can solder wires from the pads on the jack and pot footprints to panel mounted hardware.)

Good luck, you’ll fit right in here.

Edit:

I have some spare boards at home you can have for cost+shipping. The BST Thread (Buy, Sell, Trade) - #157 by Sonosus

I’m away right now but I can ship them when I’m back next week if you’re interested.
