Introductions: Say hello, tell us about yourself and your projects

Hi,

My name is Stephan, i’m from germany near cologne, and a little bit over 40 years old.
I’ve studied eletronics and information technology and I love all kinds of eletronics, especially analog and retro stuff.
Some years ago I decided to build my own modular synth after watching some of Ray Wilsons videos. I started with the weird sound generator.
For me building such devices is a hobby to calm my mind after a long working day, so I try to build everything on my own. I designe my pcb’s with kicad, etch them with ferro chloride, drill and print front plates and build cases.
In the last lockdown I decided to build a modular synth, each month one module, and until now it workes.
I found a lot of information from this forum, and of course from Ray Wilson, LMNC, Moritz Klein and AnalogOutput, so I decided to sign in.

Happy building!
Stef

Welcome to the forum!
It certainly is the friendliest repository of info you’ll find on the internet :grinning:

Hi all

I’m Dave, I’ve been lurking for a few weeks and decided it’s time to join in the fun. I’m UK based, in my late forties, rubbish at music, and obsessed with making technology generate sounds.

Over the past few years, I have been teaching myself DSP, and spent a lot of my spare time working on open-source music software. A few months ago I was watching Aaron Lanterman on youtube, describing a current-controlled sawtooth oscillator, and my old electronics memories from college came flooding back. Over the next few weeks, I read alot and watched a fair few videos on DIY synths and decided I wanted to build my own synth.

I only have a few simple modules of my own design, a couple of music from outer space modules, that I adapted the psb layout for euro rack, and following a visit to the museum, and trying out the larger kosmos format, a growing collection of LMNC modules.

Dave,

Welcome to the forum! I really want to make music sound like a spaceship cockpit interior no matter how better I get at it.

Hi,
I’m Arno French guy who is discovering the fabulous world of home made modular synth.
I am pretty new to music. I played drums for two years, a long ago. And never made “real music” ever since (just making weird noises with my lovers guitar and pedals).
I am as excited by building the instrument, as by playing it (when I can, cuz I don’t have any built module at the moment).
Not sure where I plan to go with all this, but so far I enjoy the journey!

Arno,

Welcome to the forum! Weird noises can carry over from guitar to modular. There’s a module that converts line signal into guitar signal and vice versa and gets modular into the pedals.

Hello, everyone!

I am Illucynic out of Minnesota, US and I’ve been browsing the forums for a while now. I like the vibe of the community here! A lot of good information and helpful folks.

Despite having an electrical engineering degree, I’m pretty new to DIY electronics and spent much of the last year during lockdown working on various projects. I only recently started putting together a modular synth (something I’ve wanted to do for a few years after discovering LMNC’s channel) with a Kosmo format case, a couple basic modules, and a few LMNC ones. It’s been a lot of fun, however there’s still a good amount of troubleshooting to do; I’m sure I’ll be asking plenty of questions.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to being here!

Hi,

I’m Chris. Been watching LMNC for a while now and figured I’d sign up here as well.

I’ve been building guitar effects pedals during lock down, teaching my self PCB design and learning the basics of audio electronics cloning famous vintage stuff that costs more than is entirely sensible. Think Klons, Blues Breakers and Rats, amongst others.

I’ve more or less tapped out what I want to build in that area for now, though I’m sure there will be more at some point. Over that last year or so I’ve been listening to more and more synth based music and it’s starting to rub off.

Not exactly sure what I’ll end up doing, but I’m enjoying learning a lot about oscilators, envelopes and filters for now. I may start building a DIY power supply and VCO and go from there, though that would mean I need something to feed them notes!

I also have the parts to build a couple of APCs with my girls and will be using Sams video as a bit of a guide.
