It is not really a song, but it is definitely a source of inspiration.
The link starts the video at the synth part, but do watch it all if you can.
And if you don’t know “A Place to Bury Strangers” is also a really cool band to listen too.
Oliver has been a big inspiration of mine for years!
What?!? I didn’t know that Oliver was affiliated in any way with Death by Audio!
I absolutely love A Place to Bury Strangers!
begging for the daft punk treatment
I absolutely cannot stop listening to Ren right now. He is a Welsh singer/songwriter/producer/performer from Brighton, UK. I think this song of his is absolutely brilliant. He performed it live for the video below. I should preface by saying I absolutely do not like rap at all! I like the Beastie Boys and that’s it. However, this kid (kid to me…he’s 33) is amazing and I love his work! His backstory is heartbreaking and he deserves the attention he’s getting right now. He has no label and is doing this on his own. After the song Hi Ren came out he was offered a slot at Glastonbury this year and other UK festivals. He has had to turn them all down though in order to continue receiving medical treatment in Calgary, Canada . At the end of the Hi Ren video he explains the song and touches on his illness, etc…
Hi Ren:
My favorite track of his is:
Losing It
Maynard is such a strange human. I did marketing for A Perfect Circle here in the US and the guy was incredibly difficult to deal / work with. At least with the APC records, he refused to sign his name and would only sign as a symbol. The symbol changed per person. He would look at the person and think of a symbol that represented them and scribble that down. He frequently used the “?” mark for a great many people.
thanks for sharing , great song . shared with a good friend that has dealt with " issues " his whole life, he loved the song said it was right on the money in explaining what it is like .
I’m listening to a lot of sulk rooms (Thomas Ragsdale) at the moment, he makes some really dense emotional drones and he’s amazing to watch live
Anyone into Master Boot Record? That just popped up on Spotify after LMNC!
So good! Heavy, classical, metal, synth, chiptuney, bassy, sweepy goodness!!
Tokyo Groove Jyoshi here in my favourite configuration, with both bass players, and Harumo Imai on sax. Emi gets to really Manzarek the joint in a good solo on the Nord. The song is So What from the legendary Miles Davis album Kind Of Blue.
cool mix of all the different instruments and people playing .
I heard this the yesterday evening in University Challenge on BBC tv, and did not know it, nor did the contestants. Jeremy Paxman mentioned the composer and the name of the piece, but he was speaking with quite a slur, so I did not onderstand him. Was the man drunk, or does he always speak like that?
Luckily using shazam I quickly discovered what it was, Pavane, Opus 50 by Gabriel Faure written in 1887
Now that is the kind of music I’d like to be able to make one day.
Would anyone know where to find the text the chorus is singing?
If you can find a MIDI file (eg here?) you might be able to create something of your own - patch voices that work together, function together, not necessarily to imitate real instruments.
Here’s one I tried a while back. String quartets are good, because fiddles are mostly monophonic and there are only four of the buggers.
