coming here and visiting with you all is a very looked forward to distraction . here were we can leave the politics and boarders behind and just be friends in our common love of music . I realize that even with our different locales ,languages, ages we are not that different in our fears, anxieties . I know that is kind of heavy so as we continue to be here for each other my only hope is that we remember to have fun and can all be here in the years to come showing off our latest ideas / creations.

OK, settle down everyone. It was actually quite stable, though it doesn’t look like it in the photo. And I moved the DL4 too

where are you based??

I have been to Port Merion, a few times including on my Honrymoon some 22 years ago.

In my garage is a “haynes roadster” which is based on the lotus 7 design… Sadly its not roadworthy yet.

Jodi Whitaker is without a doubt the prettiest actor to play The Doctor since David Tenant.

Thank you, it helped to acknowledge the feeling and try not to feed into it. Distractions also help, my task tomorrow will be to put an emergency box together like Caustic suggested by mentioning his closet.

There are a lot of books I inherited from my wife when she passed away last year, with quite a few about buddhism and meditation. Maybe now is the time to thumb through a few, or pick one and go with it? A friend suggested watching the “Gong bath” stream on youtube, that’s in the hippy trippy camp for sure! It may help…

Southern UK, in a town called Brighton. I had a book on building a Low-cost 7 by Haynes. Is this the same as yours? Always wanted to build an electric version. Had big plans for what to do after Uni, but things didn’t work out ‘just as planned’.

I was in Brighton last summer, we we on a camping tour ( Lincolnshire, Sussex, Shropshire ) Camped down at Pevansy Bay…

We thought we would park in a multi story in Brighton, it said £8 on a big sign… But that was for early birds… £33 for 4hrs!! We drove out of town and parked on the roadside for £5…

The “Build a sports car for £250 or less” was the first version… I too had this book at one point. But the availability of MK2 Escort donor cars was on a sharp decline and nobody could build one CHEAP any more… A new book “Build Your Own Sports Car: On a Budget” replacd it. It was a much more professional effort and used the Sierra as a donor ( which at the time were also plentiful and cheap) a whole ecosystem sprung up around it including a forum “haynesforum” and various people were producing parts for builds… Unfortunately the decreasing availability of donors (again) and the commercials not stacking up for the suppliers means the populatiry wayned a few years ago…

Took one of My kids out for a bike ride in the woods behind out house ( not literally ) and took the other one out there so he could climb tree ( using ropes, ascenders, and all his other climbing kit)… Was a little chilly but nice to get them dragged out!

Yep, the big car parks in Brighton are insanely expensive, more so than London (so I’m told). It sounds like building your own car is getting harder because of donors. Until this Covid thing stopped play, I’m helping a couple of friends restore some old motorcycles, can still do some machining on my lathe now it’s all clean and tidy! Got a mill and a 3D printer too, which comes in useful for fixing things I find. May also come in useful for making the modular.

there were a couple of companies that made parts to use the MX5 as a donor… but generally rear wheel drive donors are a rare thing these days…

Worst part is that once built, you have to have an IVA inspection, which is £500 and quite complex and strict… And the government body that does it VOSA has shut a lot of it’s testing stations…

Guess it’s a case of use it or loose it, and not very many people are making their own cars these days!

It is empowering, thanks goes to Sam for making this space, so we can all have a laugh and make some strange noises too! Plus meet people we’d not usually get the chance to meet.

Anthony Isaac. That sinister growling at the start used to chill me to the bone.

Not sure if others feel this way, but fiction like this tends to make me feel better.
