We had a safeguarding progress meeting yesterday with representatives from the Police, the NHS, and two different City Council departments. My daughter was able to attend; they used the Microsoft Teams app from their homes and offices and I linked us in on my mobile phone via her home WiFi. It was quite helpful to me because it helps her to see that many people are working hard to help her. They’re listening to her concerns, while also taking into account the unsustainable situation and how best it can be addressed for the long term.
Since the CCTV went up there have been no attacks, per se, but there have been a couple of very weird incidents. One of the people who live opposite, an elderly woman, showed up shouting my daughter’s first name loudly outside her door. When I asked what she wanted she said she wanted to sell boots to my daughter. Quite surreal. More recently another one of them showed up with their kids one evening, all claiming they’d seen my daughter’s albino ferret in the street, in an apparent effort to coax her out of her house. The ferret was playing in the living room at the time. She silently closed the door. My overall impression is that they think she is too stupid to smell something fishy. At the meeting one of the police officers hinted that in his assessment they are very dangerous people. They’re certainly not the kind of people I have encountered since I was in primary school.

I’m still doomscrolling US politics on Twitter and following along on various podcasts, mostly from MSNBC and CNN but also Vox, 538, and The Daily Beast’s New Abnormal.
My real life is still very weird and stressful so I find the outrageous stuff, in a curious way, reassuring. There are other people out there facing dauntingly new challenges and coping, and I love rooting for them.
