Herbert Deutsch RIP

Herbert Deutsch, who worked with Robert Moog in the development of the first Moog synthesizer, has died.

I was fortunate enough to see him in 2020, just a couple weeks before pandemic lockdowns, at a Moog commemorative event at Cornell University. His name didn’t go on the synthesizer but his part in its creation was substantial — Moog was the engineer who figured out how to build it, but Deutsch was the musician with the insights about what to build.
