EYEBALLS! (well, one of them at least)

A few hours of 3D printing and 10 minutes fumbling around with tiny screws later, I have an eyeball.

(seems my eyeball balls are a bit smaller than Sam’s version; guess I should have ordered the 5 cent “Professional Table Tennis Ball For Ping Pong Competition” balls instead of the 3 cent “Beer Pong Balls Balls Ping Pong Drinking Practice Balls” balls :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:).

Now where did I put my hacked-together servo test controller…

EDIT: See below for where I got the STLs.

This looks nice! Any chance you will publish the STL-files? And what about the controlling software? Are you planning on letting the eye follow a person watching it around (or is that not a camera in the hole below the eye)?

Apologies, should have linked to @lookmumnocomputer’s Patreon post where he’s building a new Kosmo face to replace the old one (see the Modern Gas video to learn what happened to that guy).

(I’ll leave it to @lookmumnocomputer to decide if he wants to publish these STLs also for non-Patreons, or post them to Thingiverse or something.) EDIT: The STL files can be found via this page.

As for controlling things, I’ll probably just use some simple 555 CV-to-servo controllers for now (if I could only find them).

awesome!!! looking good! yeah I’m going to do a vid on these for tomorrow. so ill share them and also a 3d printed eye, which isn’t as good as a pingpong ball but there is people want it!

I’ve put the thing together easily since i have experience in 3d printing, but not any in arduino uno. might anybody have some code for it by chance? coding isn’t my expertise. Thank you!

I don’t think there’s any standard code for the eye, but it’s not hard to find servo libraries for Arduino; their main library page points to https://www.arduino.cc/en/Reference/Servo and that page also links to some code samples.

I used a 555.

look on Halloween sites they have all kinds of talking skull builds . moving eyeballs , jaws moving in sync to voice . Arduino / servo builds .

I don’t own a printer and was wondering if I could get someone with a printer to make a couple of these brackets for me . I would cover costs , shipping etc. PM me if you are interested .

There may be a maker scene near where you live. Oftentimes they allow you to use their printers.

Here (Germany) some public libraries have 3d printers now. I always wanted to check how that works exactly when you go there, but never found the time…

the covid thing kinda puts a damper on that , plus I have no idea how they work . but that is a good idea there is one close by and I could e-mail them hell it would be a good reason to join the club and maybe learn how it works .
