is the MS 10 the reissue or an original . a friend of mine had a MS 10 and MS 20 originals they were a lot of fun .
Original! I took it apart, fixed it up, cleaned out the nasty, and got it running pretty well. There is one troublesome pot, but that’s about it. It’s in pretty good shape.
awesome that is a nice piece of kit to have .
Oh i got that. Full Bucket also has many fair emulations of other synths i never owned. Software is also easier to use in general so i would prolly end up using the vst over the hardware 99% of the time anyway.
Ahh… that looks like it’ll do the job! Thanks for that.
Kurzweil K2000, hands down winner. Is my first ever synth, which I bought around 1991 after hearing the strings. I was sold immediately. It has a great programming interface where all values entered make sense: Volume in dB, frequencies in Hz etc. Not the usual 0 … 127 values you don’t know what they stand for.
Next most favorite would be the Korg Wavestation Ex. Pads, pads, pads and oh, did I mention pads?
You dont see a lot of effort in preserving these dope ass workstations that have a really cool collection of sounds. Ive seen only a small recent effort for things like the M1 and korg triton. And thats only pretty recent for the triton.
Being a fan of nightwish, Tuomas Holopainen heavily leaned on this thing.
i keep trading my synths in the hope i can get to an MS-20 or Juno…
I do have a yamaha CS1x at present which is quite a lot of fun to my untrained skillz. been using it over midi from a Korg X5D which in itself is ok but a bit to digital,
Ever considered a K2 (in stead of an MS-20) ?
The Wavestation was released as a VST in the same software pack as the M1, and has now got its successor in hardware in the WaveState. The Kurzweil K2000 to my knowledge was s synth known for its good acoustic sounds: flute, trumpet, strings and such. It did not have a resonant filter, so although it was also great at creating analog sounds, and building distortions and filtering them and mixing them with the dry signal etc. etc. (the dsp capabilities are fantastic) there was that bit missing. Kurzweil has not released anything new really after the k2000, which is odd for a synth manufacturer.
Roland has Juno 3 and 6 versions in the desktop boutique models now. They’re still emulation but they are factory outboard. I’ve thought about the Jupiter but come down against it again and again. I have the Arturia version so I can’t justify to myself even that small amount of space for another emulator.
I just seem to recall that aside from the few korg released, there were not as many recreations etc. At lease for a long while when i was looking. I blame the accessiblity of bigass sample libs. Something to be said about a bigass chungus with loads of already vetted great samples. Even if they sound cheesy now, some people are after that cheese damnit.
The latest 06A also emulates the 106.
Great to see some Triton love! Might be a bit niche to a lot of people but the triton sounds (especially the strings and detunes square wave patches) underpin a lot of oldschool Grime instrumentals that I grew up with so I love to see it. This guy even named his album after it
It all depends on where I look.
If its my favorite non-DIY module, so for me thats in Euro, its gotta be my Make Noise Maths, I love it to death and its soooo useful in any eurorack patch, although I have just recieved a Behringer 960 and 962, which together form an 8-24 step sequencer, which are also loads of fun and much more musically useful than the MN Rene Mk 1 I have been using for this previously, just pair them with a quantizer and off you go. Or use an adaptor and patch them directly into Sam’s performance VCO’s and keep an eye on the tuner.
As for my favorite keys, its a toss up between my DSI Mopho SE/Tetra combo, or my Moog Sub Phatty.
Overall favorite piece of gear is probably the Make Noise Bus Case though, the 1U bus module changed the way I worked completely, regardless of the modules in it. Either that or my signed Soulsby Oscitron, I love the sounds it makes and Paul Soulsby is a really nice guy. Its just a really nice ‘item’
I know I have. That or I sell a kidney to get the MS-20 reissue.
Posting this here, since before the sample’s firmware did not allow chromatic sample playback. There was a midi patch with some firmware and gubbins inside to enable this, but now its just an unofficial firmware update.
The sample just got a whole lot better. 150 buckazoids for a sampler is pretty great if you need a hardware sampler, and now you can even play it chromatically.
This makes it the best volca to me.
My MicroKorg S and my Ensoniq Mirage DSK-1
The MicroKorg is just a really solid, versatile poly synth. It will always have a place in my heart and in my studio.
The Mirage is incredibly strange and hard to work with, but the timbre it grants anything you put through it is worth more than the $100 CAD that I paid for it. Also, I just think floppy disks are rad and I will continue to use them, even though they’re slow and cumbersome. The cool factor is too important <3
Great faves, but my boi, the Hamond organ and the sp-404 speak to my soul <3
Oh yeah. That update made my sample ace. Highly recommend.
