Useful 3D prints for SDIY and electronics

This looks intriguing to me. I don’t print panels but it looks like CadQuery can export to DXF/other vector formats. I could easily use this to make drilling templates for my wooden (HDF) panels.

At the moment I design panels using Onshape, which IMO is a great general CAD program but I find the sketching interface somewhat painful for drawing panels.
One commonly used feature this could help with is if I want to create a row of evenly spaced holes aligned in the centre of the panel. I like the idea of being able to abstract away all the fiddling about with centre lines, constraints, and linear patterns to a simple (more restricted) command that just works for panels.
Python is also the only programming language I feel I’m proficient enough at to be able to contribute to things like this so I’m happy to help code-wise.

That’s a yes from me.

All righties, let’s direct that conversation to the new thread then:

TIL there is a python lib for CAD omg crazy

Resistor drawers

See also

This is the project that got me to install OpenSCAD, because I wanted a little more front to back depth to accommodate taped resistors. I also wanted one drawer to be two compartments rather than one or three.

Came up with my own drawer labels because I like ordering by mantissa then exponent (i.e. color band order).

It could use some feet underneath, it’s awkward having drawers right at bench level.

A little thingie I’ve just released - a better revision of an item I created last year.

Tileable Breadboard Wire Tray

A tray for your leads, sorted by size, with little rulers on the side. It’s the same size as breadboards, and has notches to tile with them.

The downloads are here!

A 3d printing filament question:
has anyone any experience with ferromagnetic pla?

I have been asked to remake a drone i made in the 80’s which was a 4 tonewheel setup powered by an old Singer foot pedal sewing machine, meccano, guitar pickups and bicycle gears.
It rarely worked well but definitely caught the eye. (wear your safety goggles).

Id like to remake it using 3d printed wheels (or just the bumpy rims). Can anyone throw advice or a good link my way?

A little thing I made the other day and cleaned up for release:

Parametric IDC Connector Cover for 10-pin and 16-pin Shrouded Eurorack Header

(It will also work with other sizes I just put the numbers because print sites have terrible search features and you want to shove as many keywords as possible in the title)

All the details on the download page:

Nice print quality.
Which printer do you use?

Just an ender 3 v2 with a few cheap upgrades (bed springs, metal extruder, directly drive conversion, depth probe)
Nowadays pretty much every printer can reach similar quality

Ok, your last post made me buy an new printer (Elegoo Neptune 4 pro) in the black friday sale. Maybe its time for my 7-year old i3 clone to go to printer heaven… This old printer was never good enough to print these small holes or other small parts, only larger boxes and stuff.

Hello guys, wanted to share with you my first design : https://www.printables.com/model/823013-mean-well-rt-65b50b-alimentation-cover
It’s a cover for Mean Well alimentation.
Any feedback is welcome.

Hi all,

here is a small (but growing) project for my personal diy synth lab. I hate it, when I a lot of pots, jacks etc. floating around the breadboard during working or testing on new module, so I designed the first DIY-Lab pot board for 6 pots. Maybe it will be useful for others. More boards and modules will follow the next weeks.

Not entirely the same but serving a similar purpose, I made some small modules with some buttons, pots, jacks or simply a power connector. These are cut from plywood.

Push Drill with Adjustable Chuck

Very useful to cut tracks on stripboard. Not capable of actually drilling holes, but still strongly recommended. The chuck is very strong and the pieces fit easily.

A less janky test busboard than the one i used before (which was at a constant risk of shorting by accident due to using alligator clips)

The item was poorly designed as a one off and needed a bit of manual adjustment, so no stl share unless someone seriously insists… Design your own, it will be better.

In my newly expanded Kosmo case I have one 40W PSU which I’m going to try to have powering all four rows. Originally I had a terminal strip splitting power out to two rows, but with the expansion I decided to try replacing that with three Wago 221-415 5-position lever connectors. You can buy mounting plates for the Wago connectors but I chose to look for something I could print.

Rather to my surprise, Wago actually has a site for users to upload files for Wago-related designs. You have to register to download, though, so I passed that by. There are lots of Wago mounting plates on Thingiverse, Printables, and so on. I went with this collection:

and specifically the horizontal 3x 221-415 design.

I like it so far.

Got annoyed at the resistor bender thingymajig I had. I have no need to bend them in 5 different sizes, I want to bend a lot of them at one specific size. So I obviously had to spend half a day designing a new one

I’ve been looking for exactly this STL. Please share
