I did another search, and it seems the project was cancelled. The most plausible reason seems to be that the Banks Estate felt it wasn’t the right time. This article is from last August (2020.)

Umbrella academy is awesome. Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance made the comic. Im still hoping they make as good of an adaptation for “The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys”.

Before Umbrella Academy, the only thing I knew about Gerard Way was that when my then-teenaged daughter wore a very fetching military-style jacket people would say she looked like a My Chemical Romance fan. I thought she looked like the bees knees.

The Umbrella Academy season 2, episode 8, “The Seven Stages” is the best payoff I’ve seen in some time. Comedy gold, and a suspenseful cliff-hanger too.

The Expanse starts slow but gets interesting once we leave those claustrophobic scenes on Ceres behind. I’m currently half way through Season 2 and really invested in the show. Great world-building, more or less believable treatment of Newtonian dynamics. Political intrigue to make Machiavelli look like a beginner. Fantastic score for synth fans.

And as usual, Jared Harris steals every scene he’s in. That Belter twang, those glottal stops, he really sells the patois.

Yeah! I really enjoyed the books (desperately waiting for the last one!) and the TV adaption is great too! I have not yet watched season 5, but I am looking forward to it! (So little time with two small kids  ).

The Hillywood Show have announced that their next parody will be Good Omens. This will be the second time they’ve portrayed a character played by David Tennant after the Doctor Who/Rocky Horror parody. Their parodies have increased in quality over the years. This is a fairly recent one, Umbrella Academy.

I watched the first episode of the watch last night. I don’t know what I expected.

The Expanse just goes from strength to strength as the universe opens up furher. Not to mention Amazon just pouring money into the SFX budget… when you get to season 4 you’ll see what I mean

I also love the books (and have my copy of Leviathan Falls on pre-order for whenever it gets published), but Lang Belta is much better on the show, since it is now considered a living conlang. In the books it was just some random stuff that Abraham and Franke made up on the spot, now they have a proper linguist doing it - much like Klingon.

What is The Watch? One of many new shows I haven’t heard of?

Its a show very loosely based on discworld’s “The City Watch”.

Its what i describe as “garlic ice cream”. Elements of things i like, but just not great together.

My issues with the show arnt even the adaptation’s liberties with visuals.

Its not stupid petty differences like lacking Tom Bombadil with the LOTR movies. This is like if instead of Sam, Frodo was buds with Gollum from the beginning, and is haunted by his past because he killed him. If you think this is hyperbole and being a bit extreme, a very similar situation plays out here.

On Reddit, a post on r/LangBelta loosely translates this as:

“Always watch the doors and corners. That’s where they get you.”

I’m sure I’ve heard that in English on the show.

Technically that’s about right. The more accurate translation of that would be ‘Always watch doors and corners, kid… that’s where they get you’

Kowltime vedi fong bap unte kuwang maliwala… depelésh imim ge to
Always look-from door and corner(s) kid/child… that-place they get you

and is often said by Miller. It’s ‘maliwala’ or kid they would have missed if they were translating that precise line.

yeah the Expanse is one of the best scifi shows out there now . love , war , proto molecules …
obviously a big budget with some great characters and the Belter slang / accent also cool .

I can get over different looks, hell even superficial changes don’t matter much in the long run to me. Its still a bit of a mess. Still, only watched the first episode, so take it for what you will.

I also always kind of liked how they have this sort of anarchist air around them… even if Belter politics don’t necessarily fit my own vision of anarchy.

Looking forward to seeing what happens to Marco.

Attempted Translation by non-Belter Creole speaker-
