Thomas henry vcos

thats exactly why i got the werkstatt! was my first purchase on this journey. its invaluable for testing stuff ive used the onboard power before i had my own to test stuff and ive used the lfo as a clock…its just the best little thing to have around and for the 100$ it cost me its a treasure

idk wtf happened to filter 1 but its just a volume knob for the input now…its really irritating…but filter two does…some filter things…i have a really fast pulse going into their cv cuz it sounded cool more focused 0on learning this drum machine it has way more features than expected on a 300$ thing

thats the th vco going behind the drums that are too loud btw haha

Definitely heard the vco. You could make a Thomas Henry Bass++. It’s like an 808. It uses lm13700 like the ms20 and the vcos. Also I heard the hard sync is insane on that thvco. I’d run one as a drone through the sequenced one. Here’s the Bass++ layout. I built off this. No problems. Worked first try.

i keep forgetting to try hardsync…i can test it with my werkstatt. i hooked up the other vco and turned it on and there was a tiny ass piece of aluminum across one of the trim pots and it melted…i replaced it and the chips and now the 13700 and tl074 get red hot if i power it up and theres no shorts…went over it with a 30x… so ill prob just rebuild it wont be too bad since everything else is in place and wired. ill do the same with the filters too prob maybe jsut do an entire new box now that my soldering doesnt look like fingerpainting. nothing ive built except the vco works right and even it wont tune across octaves very good. goes flat just between two Cs no matter what i try. it holds whatever pitch tis at but the tuning is god awful

Have you tried using a 3340 ic? There are some really good layouts in this forum, and I have built the one by Caustic.

The thvco was supposed to be Thomas Henrys attempt at the 3340 vco without the 3340… It’s a whole story. Anyway it is dead simple, if you just want something simple, and Sam has a layout for that.

I have built both. They track very well if you take the time to calibrate the exponential scaling.

i have two AS chips and one cem chip…the one shot the lfo and the vdco…and a few others i got whiile i was at it. also got some transistor arrays to do the moog filter. i went a little crazy buying shit lol. def going to do a fresh box and just do a better job on everything…the attenuator has a ton of bleed when things are really loud going in. my sequencer is jank and i dont really use it anyways because youd have to tune each step for it to not sound jank (its ok for cv though can do some cool stuff). i expected there to be a learning curve but i used to make music every single day…i released 19 songs a month ago and now i spend all my time troubleshooting stuff that half ass works but im too addicted to it now lol

i got the tuning to hold over a few octaves its just really touchy as to where tthe dials are when you start. tried the hardsync and fm inputs and now im starting to see why this thing has such a rep. its really nice when synced
