So my PCB’s arrived for my simple VCO a coupe of weeks ago, I have been waiting on some 620ohm resistors that turned up yesterday. This morning I decided to test, this is my firsy AUDIO test of any module…
1st problem was that the master tuning knob made no difference, apart from emitting smoke at one end of the track.
Good catch! (totally missed that potentiometer at first)
And you don’t have to turn it that far to damage the potentiometer itself; if you’re using one of those tiny 9mm 100k potentiometers, they’re rated for a paltry 0.05 W which corresponds to max sqrt(0.05/100k) = 0.7 mA through the pot for a 100k pot, which you’ll reach at around 45 degrees from the end position.
Ah, misunderstood that. Waste of time in my opinion. If everybody starts showing random soldering mistakes or copied some part of a schematic incorrectly, that is not something other people will likely learn something from other than that it is wise to pay attention to what you are doing.
I thought it would be an interesting little challenge for people to spot some OBVIOUS mistakes that creep into designs.
I said in the first post that I had identified the issues and was able to fix them, so it was just a challenge out of interest if someone could spot those silly errors that had crept in.
No worries. We are used to people asking questions about problems they have not solved yet. And there are plenty because quite a few people are just starting in electronics and synthesis.
it was solved within minutes when i reloaded the schematic., but I THOUGHT it may be fun to have a laugh at my silly mistakes as per the Dumbass thread.
Simple misunderstandings can happen yall. Going forward, i think all would agree a similar post should frame the discussion around it being a challenge. In hindsight it would make no sense for someone who was requesting help to know the exact number of mistakes made. The context is usually to help address problems, so if we are not doing that lets just make sure to clarify.
Thought that was pretty clear, but then again the people objecting are AFAIK non native English speakers so maybe not so clear to them. Anyway, I enjoyed the thread.
