Teenage Engineering Pocket Operators

I just saw an article talking about some neat new Pocket Operators based on Capcom licenses. I realized there wasnt a thread for these little toys, and well i’m curious what others think about them. I have personally had the arcade and had a lot of fun with it despite the limitations of the device.

I think this is a good move for them seeing how popular the arcade was.

I’ve had almost all of them and sold some of them again. The one I keep coming back though is the 33 K.O. Sampler - it’s just so much fun!
If you’re on a longer train trip for example, bring a cable, hook it up to your phone and you can sample directly from youtube for example for a quick jam :ok_hand:

I love mine. KO, Speak, Arcade. Arcade is so easy to just be good. KO has some magic a well.

I keep wanting to pick one up…but can never decide which to try and wind up talking myself out of spending the money.

Anyone who’s into chiptune things should check out the various projects from the designer of the PO-2X series, lft.

Here’s a little song he posted earlier this year:

This might be his magnum opus: A Mind Is Born (256 bytes)

Slightly reminiscent of Abney Park. I can just imagine Robert Brown’s voice coming in there.

Bonkers level ingenuity at work.

@juggle, i picked up the arcade. That one is 60 bux, and has drums, bass, lead and vamping chord capabilities. It is my recommendation if the mood strikes.

Their limitations are not just in sound modification, but also what notes that are capable of being played. The chords are also pre-programmed. The effects that are available are fun, but become a bit cliche when overused.

That said, they are fun toys. Like many on this forum, i think toys are good for music making too however, so its not a slight.
