I suppose it could be a controller. When you put your hands near it the current through the bulb changes. You might use that effect and convert it to some CV-value. But be aware, I wouldn’t be surprised if there are high voltages used in such a device.
Yes it uses high frequency high voltage inside.
I’m not sure how dangerous the hv supply is, but it’s worth to check.
It also produces a lot of emi, which might possibly damage some sensitive devices.
You might be able to build something that picks up the interference and use that sound, i guess it would change if you touch the globe, maybe also in the presence of a magnetic field.
I wonder if it can be made into a theremin style device, since it uses the high frequency inside
Ooh, like a phased array of magnetic sensors. That sounds noisy/doable. Listening to the space inside, translating all that plasma into functional sound or vc.
It’s on my list .
Many thanks
Try a piezo on the outside , should be safe… Adapt Analog Outputs MikroKosmo…

Little blue boxes from JLCPCB arrived today, with some self-designed protoboards. I’m continuing to work my way through every soldermask colour they offer, which is why the first one is white…
ProtoDX 1000 is a stripboard designed to be very generic, but has dedicated spots for Alps-style pots and Thonkiconn-style jacks. If I do another batch of these I’ll tweak the Pot/jack footprint so that the knobs and jacks are aligned
ProtoDX 2000 was actually designed first, and is my take on the Euro/Kosmo protoboard by @analogoutput. There’s a quality issue on these - that misty line, which looks like is from contact with uncured silkscreen, is on all five (but not in the same place) - so I’ve reported that, but I’ll try working around what I’ve got. I’ve found that I’m making the same 7805 circuit over and over again so I made it a proper feature of the board, and I’ve made it so that I can get two rows of narrow DIP ICs parallel to make some of the things I’ve been trying to do a bit simpler.
If they work out ok I’ll be putting the designs up for anyone who wants them
I do a regular search for returns and 2nd hand audio interfaces. These are so cheap and flexible. I’m converting this one into a dedicated daw, pure data and vcv rack interface. 2 in, 2 out and an additional digital out. This one is even in Soundbender Red!
Enjoy
Did i mention there are mods for cv output?
Ya-Dancer!!
My Baritone/short scale Bass 6 is finally going to reach my Guitar synth rig!
Why the wee doodle?
Well i cant return it now can I?
Knobs - Love My Switches has a wide selection at reasonable prices. I use their heavy-duty Davies 1900 clones on everything. They may look a little silly on chunky Kosmo modules, but the are what I am used to for Eurorack so Kosmo has that familiar feel to it. They do have fling saucer knobs like Sam uses, Boss style, etc., all at less than one dollar US per (except huge ones). I bought cheaper 1900 clones and flying saucer knobs elsewhere, and they sucked.
A small order, including a couple of BC 847BS (SOT363) dual transistors, a few of them for @daryll (see SOT 363 soldering), whose package (contents) got lost on the way to Germany (). I decided to try those modules too and ordered a bunch of those PCBs myself from PCBWay, I had a few other PCB projects in the shopping cart anyways
Now waiting for the PCBs and turn the shipping disaster into a happy end
Some fancy metal cased leds for a retro sequencer proj and a bunch of opamps packed by an artistic moron.
Enjoy.
… And today its two beautifully packaged CA3082 NPN transistor arrays. I remember the 3082 are common collector, (3081s are common emitter), i remember i was going to do something weird with them (not just an 7 seg led) but as i post this i cannot for the life of me remember what that weird project might be!
Weird suggestions please?
Moog ladder filter ?
LOL , yep been there done that . parts shows up and you wonder what great idea or thing you saw that weekend you had to build.
Exponential converter with heaters?
… Said the actress to the bishop. You tease!
The Blue Box of hope…
A lot of post this week. Today is a faulty TD-3 roland drum brain. If i can repair it i have a new midi drum kit module and a new midi controller in one for only £20.
Or one of my kids (both drummers) will steal it to add yet more range to their own kits. About 10 years ago i took the eldest to meet Neil Peart after a Rush gig in Glasgow and since then their kit has “evolved”.
Would that still be G.A.S or D.A.S?
Wish me luck.
Those look superb. Do you batten the corners or just use the tabs and edge? Who cut these for you?
