So apparently not only my tl074s were not genuine, but also the ones that I got from a reasonably reputable local seller were bad…
well this sucks hahaha

slew rate I expected was 8-13V/us, the slew rate I measured was ~0.6
for sounds it shouldnt be tooo much of a problem (although it screws with my sawtooth - tri converter)… I only hope this doesnt mess too much with the ADSRs I was planning to do with those

Mind sharing the seller?
Have you contacted these places?

the place I bought them are a brazillian store called baú da eletrônica (this is actually the only thing I got wrong from there) and aliexpress (not too surprised about this one, but I wanted to believe)
I already messaged baú, and I’m in the process of messaging aliexpress now

Christmas gift for my niece, pleasantly surprised with the quality and how easy it is to fret a note!

Maybe I should get one and learn myself

Submit your evidence in Aliexpress dispute. You will get back money and will get to keep the IC’s. At least I did that. I payed 7 USD for some 40 IC’s and got back 5USD.

Did you make this? It’s superb.

I wish! They are from a company called “Loog.” Its a toy but it’s definitely a playable instrument if I knew what I was doing!

I don’t think I’ve ever had a UPS delivery before. This one is a nylon cover for the Neutron from Thomann, sent from Germany. They made one single attempt to deliver. Even though everybody was in the house none of us heard the door. They left a card saying it was being deposited at a dropoff point to be picked up the next working day. We couldn’t find any way to change this. I got a notice saying it had been dropped off later the same day. In Cleadon.

So now I have a 90 minute round trip on foot up a very busy road, or a similar trip on public transport. I’ll have to take my passport and a utility bill. That’s really lousy service. If they had to drop it off there are a host of places in the busy conurbation of Fulwell, just ten minutes walk away, so why take it to some isolated little village shop miles away?

[Particularly grumpy because the Met Office is predicting a solid week of rain ahead.]

With the 3 strings and equal temperament (fret set up) check out cbg videos. Its quite easy.

And to anyone thinking of making stringed instruments you can check out my uncle Andy’s you tube tutorials or visit the Andy Mackie music foundation for links.

My uncle Andy was a personal hero of mine. We both have the same love and attitude to music.

Here’s my favorite puff piece…

Great vid! Never heard of him and he lived 30 minutes away from where I grew up @Farabide

Loog’s are pretty nice. And 3 string guitars in general are great gifts for kids. Give them an open tuning (G-D-G is my go-to) and almost anyone can do something musical with them.

The two in the back up there were gifts for 4-5 year old kids who loved them. (the ones with the hello kitty and jeep headstocks) one of them is still enjoyed almost 10 years later…the other was enjoyed too much and from what I hear is no longer around.

Same with these two:

The UK one went to a boy cousin…and…did not survive more than a few years. The other one is still enjoyed regularly.

(I did a swap with a local artist - she painted those two for me in exchange for building one for her.)

They’re a blast to build and even more fun to play. And honestly I suspect the two that were "retired’ could have kept going. Even if the box is totally destroyed they still have piezeo’s under the bridge and can still be played. And I doubt a kid is going to break the 1x2 oak necks I used

Interesting

I had a strum stick like that on my backlog of projects I want to make one day. So easy to just play and it sound good (I have no guitar talent or skill)

I remember watching a Japanese film once about a very grumpy bloke who played a three-string instrument called a Samisen. It was probably on Channel 4 in the early days. All I recollect really is this: that he was always in a bit of a strop, and that the name of the instrument was samisen. I don’t mean to imply cause and effect in either direction. Most likely the writer just wanted to tell a story about a tortured genius. With subtitles.

There are 3 string instruments in almost every culture and every continent. They are one of the earliest chord instruments recorded in history.
@Vumnoo I was a professional musician but there is something about homemade 2, 3 and 4 (GDGD) string instruments that is so accessible, playable and universally adaptable that I’ve been continually drawn to making them.
I have plans in the pile for a short scale bass conversion to a baritone 3 or 4 string controller for my synths. I have Roland GK hexaphonic pickups on a number of guitars but something about a DIY basic controller that will just ‘play’ excites me. I’ve even included moveable / removable frets in the design for diatonic (dulcimer) like playing style, equal and just temperament tuning.
Just need the enough energy and the right sized box and plank.

Just received my new stock of B10k and B100k pots. I had these made without the tabs this time  Let me know if anyone is in need. I’ll post in the BST as well.
