Wipe before you put the iron down, every time

I use this before I put it down every time…

I was tought to store coated and wipe before use.
I’ve been using the same two tips for years. One regular and and one fine.
I had a cheap soldering iron once, it sucked, switched to Weller and never looked back.
I keep it at 600C, maybe the temperature has to do with durability too?

Edit: 600°F not 600C

That’s pretty hot. Did you mean °F?

an invaluable bit of kit :+1: :grinning:

mine is about 470 deg F(293 deg C), works just fine, keeping the tip clean is the singularly most important tip to follow, :+1:

Well, this is pretty hilarious.

I put in my order on AliExpress on Feb. 1, long enough ago that I don’t really remember what I was thinking, but I think I was thinking I was ordering two chips. Instead I ordered two lots of five chips. With postage they came to about 50 cents each.

Slightly cheaper than Mouser.

Slightly slower too, but when it comes to being cheap I’m patient.

Yes, you’re right, it’s 600 degrees Fahrenheit.

Replacing my Synthrotek MIDI to CV module with something better and less sleazy:

Ah yes Synthrotek, I heard Sam mention the owner was bad, but from what I have read he is about the worst example of a human being possible.
