Kosmo Sequential Switch

Mine looks different

How the hell was it working at all

I don’t see what’s different, other then that you used ceramic caps & ferrite beads instead of 10Rs?

The polarized caps are the other way around

They’ll work until they explode, right? Or at worst they won’t do much good?

I thought that was instant smoke

There were a few cases here of a capacitor upside down between the -12V and the GND and it went “bang”, in my case it was immediate when I plugged it in.

Hopefully it starts behaving! Let me know Brat!

Shoot… ok yeah I’ve had my eyes glued on protests.

I flipped the caps. Still doing the same thing

Ok to make sure I’m on the same page, when you have nothing plugged in, can you cycle thru steps with the push button as expected on 3 step and 4 step?

But when you go to 2 step mode it’s giving you 4?

Correct. Yet, when switched to 2 step mode, there is continuity between switch pin 2 and pin 4 on the 4017.

Also I’ve swapped out the 4017 twice.

yeah ok. so it seems like it’s resetting after 3 on the side that’s hooked up to pin 4 of 4017 and only after 4 on the side that’s hooked up to pin 7.

I’m gonna set this thing down for the night and come back to it later.

Super mysterious!

It looks like the bipolars light up green when not selected or is that just camera playing tricks?

If yes, maybe you have been right about your bipolar LEDs causing problems

They do light up green, which… the only way I can see them getting their forward voltage in that direction from the schematic is that they’re actually pulling VEE from the MAX313 no?

It’s not intended, although super interesting. Still doesn’t explain why it works on 3 and 4 step mode

Oh wait… so it could be that the they’re basically in series with each other, positive voltage traveling through the active LED, and then back through the other 3 leds in parrallel into the switch IC. Maybe this is why my Highs are only like… 4.95V on a 12V supply?

With single color LEDs i’m seeing 11.5V highs… so… maybe it was just a matter of the bicolor leds dropping so much of the voltage that everything was just kind of… borderline?

Works properly with regular LEDs.
