Korg PME-40x Stomp Box Conversion Guide

Hey y’all, been sitting on this one for a while - I’ve been drooling over the Korg PME 40x guitar effect cartridges for a while, but I’m too lazy to commit to the whole docking station ecosystem. I put together some 3d print files and a tutorial vid to convert them into stomp boxes and I think they sound really good. Fun project:

If you come across a wave shaper on a dist wah, totally pick it up. The chorus and phaser also seem really cool. And if you come across an octave V, please sell it to me : p

Cheers,

Well done. I’ve seen a few projects to utilise lost products and as you said these are fairly unique fx units. About 20 years ago I had salvaged Vox Fx parts (originally designed to live inside a vox guitar) housed in a biscuit tin in my old rack.

This kind of project is what I love about DIY music.

Oh and nice to see another Bass VI user (or is it a Baritone?)

Keep it coming!

Thank you! It’s just a regular ole jazzmaster, but that super deep tone is coming from the Octave V, it’s a truly wild octave effect.

Great stuff! But why spend $40 on that voltage doubler when you can DIY one for maybe less than $5? My guess is that these are ICL7660 based modules, an IC which you can get for less than $2.

So true, I really considered that. But I figure by the time I map out the circuit, copy it into KiCad, make my pcb, test it, revise it, etc etc, at some point I have to just value my time and get back to learning guitar. But if I were making more of these things I might go the custom PCB clone circuit route, with the audio and power connectors integrated in.
