Introductions: Say hello, tell us about yourself and your projects

Thanks a lot! Yes I wish I bought more when I found it.
Here is the board in the early stages of the build.

A very tidy build indeed. What’s next?

Thanks, I’m currently learning about clipping diodes, a soft clipping module would be nice

hi! i’m nzfs from way south in south america. been into diy for many years (mostly pedals), and a couple weeks ago i decided to finally finish my modular synth and make it useful. lmnc has been a great inspiration since i first discovered the channel in 2016.

i also make and play music and noises full time, here’s my youtube channel if anyone want to check it out

Welcome! Can you post pictures and audio of your rig? I’d love to see your work. I miss that early misconception that a modular synth can ever be finished.

well, this one case can be filled at least after 6 years of being stored😅

so far i have a yusynth vco and mixer, an odyssey vco and tap tempo lfo i got the PCBs from a guy on a facebook group a couple years ago that need panels (and a styroflex cap if i can get it somewhere), and a couple half finished designs by moritz klein. i need to get a few more components this week an luckily i’ll have it functional and record something

Hey, are any of you going to Sam’s concert tomorrow in London? I’m coming from Poland alone and I’d be happy to join someone at a concert :))

Hi everyone,
I´m Markus and i´m very happy to have you all in my rabbit hole here. My story: Maybe 8 Years ago i was searching for a new Hobby and bought a “NI Maschine” and startet making noise(s). Later i was playing around and trying integrated some external semimodular synths, like the Volcas and Behringer Neutron etc…

Then i saw the my first LMNC-Video and later my wonderful wife gave me the mix-tape records with the circle of doom as a birthday gift. After successfully building i searches on “kleinanzeigen.de” (“little advertisment” - german private trading platform) and bought all available LMNC-Kits. Most of these are soldered now and the “basics” VCO, ADSR, VCA are ready to play with ( I still have no Case :see_no_evil: ).
Next i will try to make some “more DIY” modules.

And as you noticed, my english is “a little bit” freestyle. I hope you could guess, what i mean

Your english is fine, welcome to the forum.

I agree with @twinturbo . Your English is better than some Americans I know, and I doubt any of them speak sogar ein bisschen Deutsch so no worries. Welcome!

thank you very much for listening!
i’m glad you like it

Hello,

I am a software developer by trade and a mathematician by training. I played with an Arduino years ago but didn’t exceed the basics.

I then discovered LMNC, whose contagious enthusiasm encouraged me to start playing with electronics again. I have always wanted to learn the basics of analog electronics, and DIY modular synths seem like a perfect fit.

I browsed the forum a bit and am looking forward to participating.

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself to this awesome community of synth enthusiasts. :musical_keyboard:

I’m a total DIY synth newbie but a longtime lover of electronic music and all things synth. My collection includes a few trusty Korg Electribes from back in the 90s, which still give me nostalgic vibes every time I fire them up.

I’ve always dreamed of getting into modular synths, but here in Brazil, they’re like unicorns – rare and expensive! So, I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands and build my own.

After stumbling across Look Mum No Computer’s crazy-cool projects, I thought, “Hey, I can do that!” So here I am, ready to learn, tinker, and hopefully make some noise with you all.

I can’t wait to geek out over synths, swap stories, and maybe even build some rad stuff together!

Catch you on the waveforms!

Hello, everyone!

Long-time electronics enthusiast, saw Sam’s videos ages ago but was still pretty intimidated (he’s got a PhD, right?) and it took a cynical post on some DIY forum that said something along the lines of “good luck getting into DIY if you haven’t been to vocational school or studied electrical engineering” for me to place a big Tayda order cause, well, I studied electronics at vocational school! (Yes, a room full of teenagers blowing up caps is a lot like the experience of turning on the first few homemade modules.)

I’m actually a mechanic, which means I can read schematics/assemble boards ok, but not troubleshoot barely at all when it comes to the nonvisual world of voltages. I’ve already learned a ton from folks here, but now my projects are out of hand and I’ll start needing eyes/minds to tell me if my ideas are wrong/bad.

And I think I’ve gotten pretty good at stripboard layouts, so once I have things working properly, I hope I can contribute what I’ve figured out, but there’s a lot to learn before sharing info on electricity, as proven by some of your incredibly thorough & thoughtful responses. Thanks for everything, now and in the future!

Welcome! Ask your questions, there’s not much in the way of cynical replies here. We all knew nothing when we got started.

Welcome to the forum, I have ben trying this for 4 years and still far from understanding it … But I just enjoy the designing ( it would be nice if it all worked 1st time ( 2nd ,3rd or fourth would be acceptable ). The fact I am still trying after 4 years must be a good sign… And I can’t play any music which means it’s not just about that either.

Hello, thanks for having me here. I’ve been building some oscillator drone thingys and having a lot of fun.

Hi all! I’ve been lurking and finding / comparing schematics here for a bit so I thought I’d say hi. I started playing synths a couple years ago, on Moog and Make Noise semi-modulars, and I built a bunch of guitar pedals, mostly off pcbs (BF-2 flanger, klon, foxx, fuzz, muff, etc), and have slowly started breadboarding different synth circuits to see how they work.

I’m midway through my first proper synth project, modding a MAVIS with simple circuits—the passive mult in its patchbay is just 3 jacks, 2 easy-to-cut traces, so I’ve mad a Max (Peak/OR) out that’s normaled to unjacked VCO/LFO/1+2/Attn outputs, and a passive vactrol Low Pass Gate that adds voltage control to the mixer’s 1 in and out. Planned for the 3rd free jack, a VCF output that’s amplified to 10vpp.

Anyway, having fun, and I imagine that at some point I’ll take the plunge for a stand-alone case for housing future experiments…

Welcome!
My first case was a plastic under-bed storage tub that I gradually filled. Think less of a plunge and more of a quick rummage to see what you can use then get on with it. Keep us posted.
