So I’ve been stuck at this worksite for a month and have another month to go , so I needed to make some noise. I got the Hexen app on my chrome book and it’s fun but the VCO and no other noise making modules have 1v/o inputs only gate and CV. It seems like I’d have to have a voice for every key and just tune them and have a button to hate each of them. Anyone played around with software like this?
Yeh, I’m messing around with something called Voltage Modular. I ended up buying the demo I tried, and also getting a few more modules.

It’s good fun, with loads of presets to start you off.
Voltage Modular is super fun and free right now!
Another fun one is VCV Rack
VCV Rack had hundreds of modules, most of which are free / open source. Two of them I wrote (both are vocoders). If you are interested in how to make a patch I’d recommend having a look at Omri Cohen’s countless youtube videos.
Awesome thanks, I’ll have a look tonight.
Also check out languages like Pure Data and SuperCollider and Faust. They generally lack the cosmetic features of traditional analogue modular synthesis, but they’re extraordinarily powerful and compact. For instance in SuperCollider you can create a working MiniMoog-style synth voice in four or five lines of code. Far more complex constructions are possible. Unlike the other two, Pure Data is a visual programming language which applies a module and patch cable paradigm.
These are all open source systems.
another thumbs up , high 5 , or what ever for the voltage modular / cherry audio. been playing with it for awhile now , lots of fun .
Hi
I play sometimes with caustic for android
Fun tool🤖

The LV2 plugin format and JACK audio server allow for CV ports, n I’ve been playing about with things in Carla. Easiest on Arch based distros as a bunch of CV plugins are available in the AUR.
I know this is an old post, but i like playing around with Sunvox on Ras-Pi. but it is on pretty much everything else too. even an old’ish phones =)
Im yet to try it out with the BS Pro still. dont know how much massing about there will be to get it working well together.
Heres the site link and an overview/intro.
https://www.warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox/
I’ve been playing with sunvox on a pi as an alternative to my earlier efforts of making modules with old android phones and pure data.
Also used sunvox on an Android phone but have yet to find an audio interface I like.
While I find it perfectly flexible and a good tool I find the interface … well… ugly! Odd really how much that puts me off using software. I had the same problem with reaktor
I had started out with sunvox on pi after seeing some of the synths made with it, made a 4pad midi drum from a Teensy4 as a controller then got distracted by modular XD
Im wondering how much these could work together (in terms of clocks, needing ADC or DAC, midi/cv converters) its all stuff i need to learn about still
Its fun having no computer and all but… =P
I think the biggest tech challenge for me with phones was DC coupled audio interfaces. Using MIDI and MIDI over IP (a whim but fun) made mixing a matter of routing only. Pi can handle cv but phones for me were another matter.
I downloaded Chery Audio “Voltage” for free right at the start of lockdown… Along with cakewalk… Then never touched either as the PC was not set up.
Having now got everything set up I am learning how to use the DAW and found voltage was available in cakewalk ( maybe I knew this 6 months ago) .
Good fun so far, using my Korg 01W as a midi input and doign the virtual plugging… I can see the attraction.
Use VCV Rack! Install RJModules!
Does everyone here promote Mr Jones?
VCV Rack is a hell of a lot of fun though… until you DIY.
I grabbed the Cherry Audio freebie when they offered it at the start of lockdown. And after a day or two starting thinking more seriously about building a real modular again.
Software is nice to play with…but I just much prefer knobs, switches, buttons, lights, and wires I had just picked up a Neutron for my birthday in March hoping it would satisfy my modular urge…but it just made me want more hardware.
I then got distracted for a few months building radios (managed to make contacts with all 50 states and 30 countries using mostly a 5w home built radio.) before seeing Sam’s megadrone video and deciding it was time to finally make a modular happen
I think it’s just me, I am Mr Jones…
Bless you and all you do. Plug away x
