Does anyone have (any experience with) one the Sensel Morph? If so, is it possible to control USB MIDI hosts (I’m thinking like Behringer here) directly, without going through a laptop first? The Buchla 208c comes bundled with one of these (of course using the “Thunder” overlay) and I was curious if that meant it had to run through a DAW or something to function.
Also, should we come up with a “Tribe” name for ourselves? Like “Gooners” for Arsenal or Lady Gaga’s “Little Monsters?” Is that dumb? Just an expression of acceptance and familiarity for our community.
I’ve no direct experience with one and I’m definitely no expert but have recently been looking at DIYing a USB Host Midi to CV module using a PIC 24F as I want to directly hook up my MIDI AKAI LPK25 MIDI keyboard and hopefully a Novation Launchpad Mini MKII. Looking forward to Sam’s MIDI to cv module as hopefully I can just make a USB Host to DIN Midi converter which connect to that
Anyway I would guess the Morph just sends MIDI commands so you should be able to use any USB Host to cv or to 5 pin DIN MIDI board but it would be limited depending how many channels the Morph outputs, you would need a lot of jack sockets for the various cv, trigger out possibilities.
So basically yes I think just don’t go buy one based on my tentative yes lol.
If anyone has direct experience with anything USB Host related and modules etc please jump in.
@Bitnik UR probably right. I just get so tired of the “Hey guys” greeting used in every 1 to many online interaction, I wanted an alternative and was embarrassed by “LMNC folks”. Oh well…
The sensel uses MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression), so it most likely uses several, if not all, MIDI channels. So, yeah, many CV outputs required. Traditional MIDI controllers already produce more control values than a typical modular synthesizer can handle, especially if the controller has polyphonic aftertouch.
Unless the sensel can be configured to use only a couple of channels, it might be hard to use with physical synthesizers.
Totally, DN! The version of that Sam did for Redbull was the first Time I heard him, then the Drumbrute Impact demo he did, then everything else and suddenly I had a Patreon account. And bought a Drumbrute Impact…
