Hi! Exceptionally new to DIY synths. All I’ve made so far is a few reverse avalanche oscillators, but I’m itching for bigger things. I’ve started putting together a tayda basket for a few of Sam’s stripboard designs.
However, one thing that is unclear to me is the +/-12V wiring. The FC Microbus has 2x10 pin headers, but I’m not sure what kind of headers/socket I need on the module, or how I would wire the +/-12V to that header/socket.
Once I figure that out, I’m ready to pull the trigger and get a power supply and 1v/oct VCO brewing. Any help is appreciated, cheers!
You can see that I specifically used a piece of strip board that had some spots alread with cut traces/no perf - this just happened to be where the logo is, you will have to cut some of the traces as to not power every strip or ground every strip lol.
Here is a handy little guide that has 16 - 10 pin conversion -
on your FC Microbus, you will have multiple double row Headers for your Bus section/Power Distribution.
Most of Sam’s, and most of all Eurorack in general, utilize the 10-Pin headers for Power.
Here is a pic where you can see how I distributed the power on the Simple OSC circuit.
Yup, i just lay down the 10 pin headers on my modules, and 16 on my power supply.
This does mean you have to make cables that are 16 on one side and 10 on the other. If you dont want to bother, you could do 16 on both and solder the 16 to you stripboard. whatever works, just know whats pluggin into what and you will be fine. use that power bus illustration @d42kn355 showed and you should be fine.
One thing I often wonder about is the status of the Gate and CV pins. I know Doepfer originally designed the system to support a loosely defined bus system between modules (so for instance an LFO module could send a clock pulse through the Gate line, and depending on jumper settings other modules may use that pulse). I suppose this system is not used at all by most Eurorack modules. Has anybody encountered a module that can be configured to use it?

I thought a little about trying to incorporate the lines in a couple of designs, but for the most part, that seemed like it would take the fun and some of the function out of the patching process.
