Synth Fan oscillator

A fun construction that I did a while ago.
In live it really deploys bass from beyond the grave (which we don’t really hear in the video)

Work on 12V

synth-fan-small-circuit

later I added some functions (a sort of VCA with clock in / and division clock select with a CD4040 and a reset button for syncro)

Test with 4017 sequencer

infact a very simple drone but I found it funny

if some like this kind of hack, I have other but I hesitate a little bit to post this kind of thing because a little far from modular (even if some modified one could make some strange modules)

hacks are good! (and it’s not like @lookmumnocomputer hasn’t posted silly/weird/awesome non-modular things earlier, so they definitely fit the theme)

What he said. I really love to see things like this. If nothing else they stir the creative juices.

yes the double spinner and with the guitar mic, i have made some “tremollo/LFO” with LDR and motor or fidget spinner, but here what is different and interesting is that it produces sound itself with speed

“Sound with Speed” sounds like a pretty hardcore band

Love this project!

You didn’t share this idea with anyone from Gamechanger, did you? I think they might have ripped you off!

I think this is more likely just a case of simultaneous invention. Would be something if it was actually inspired by Dud.

Is Dud Gus Gijs? I thought he was French? :grinning:

(looks to me like Dud is riffing on an earlier idea, and I’m pretty sure there’s prior art for that one too because there always is )

the schem has post in this thread is (like @fredrik show) from Gieskes

here’s his version for modular

Gus? That dude is called gijs, and his domain ends in .nl . Gijs is a Dutch name and .nl is Netherlands, so I have to assume he’s from there

Ah, right, misread the handwriting, and the site is the first hit for “Gus Gieskes” so didn’t spot the mistake. Also, the second hit mentions a “Gus Gieskes (NL)” so it’s not just me

Someone should be working on their handwriting then, haha. Not that I have much authority in that department.

Well, I made the mistake so I should work on my Dutch handwriting reading skills :upside_down_face:.

On the other hand, a quick peek at Wikipedia makes me wonder if you guys aren’t asking for trouble here: “Sans serif uppercase IJ glyphs, popular in the Netherlands, typically use a ligature resembling a U with a broken left-hand stroke” and the article then goes on to complain about Y/y looking like IJ/ıȷ in Dutch handwriting.

At least he’s not Gilles and getting called “Jill!”

They do look alike, difference being mostly that you put tittles on ij and don’t put them on a y. We have some confusing names for these letters anyways, as we call ‘ei’ long y, ‘ij’ short y, and y is called greek y. It’s because they all get pronounced similarly.
Another difference between writing ij and y in handwriting usually is that y has an open loop and ij is closed. I’ll add a picture to demonstrate.
