Oh, I thought you might have meant one of the videos I mentioned
Nooooo… that’s totally not what I’m about. Was just having an open discourse, no offence meant. What’s difficult about this problem, is that analogue and digital are involved. Throw in the modern love of switching power supplies instead of big metal transformers, and you’ve got a noise problem.
I’m staying with inefficient heavy transformers, rectifiers and heat shielded voltage difference dissipators! Yes, I’ve said it. That feels like such a relief ! I should do that more often.
Agree 100%, not everything modern is shiny and good. I’m still using tubes on all my amplifiers… They are just more robust, for some reason where I live is very hard on electrical equipment. Have never had old stuff fail on a stormy night. Plus, it’s only got a few passives in it so is easy to fix.
Pleased to report this thing
solved the problem. Eliminated the noise, I haven’t done any sort of careful check of frequency response but I don’t hear anything I can’t live with.
Only problem is it’s built to work on 3.5 mm TRS cables and I need it between devices that want 1/4" TS cables. Some adapters are adequate for testing but may not be the permanent solution.
just wrap in electrical tape and forgitabouttet
Excellent news! Having unsolved issues really bugs me, especially with audio. After a while, all you can hear is the noise… infuriating! Thanks for posting the solution.
On a somewhat related note, I just eliminated some hum by no longer powering two compressors from the same 9VAC wall wart. I had wired them up with the kind of pig tail cable meant for powering multiple pedals. Tracking that down through mixers, cables, patch bays, and rack mount gear took me, probably, a couple of hours, but it was so satisfying once I found the issue.
Listen to you audiophiles, worried about hum! Over here I can barely be bothered with tuning!
Hum could be classed as drone I suppose, with the oscillator being the power station.
Yeah, but mine wasn’t hum. Mine was multi frequency noise.
So it does automatic comping!
on a related note I had to stand a piece of sheet metal next to my monitor because it sits 1’ / 30 cm away from our WiFi base and was picking up all kinds of noise .
